Heh. About government influence on the media and on which information is emphasised. Not in a crazy way. More in a balancing out the influence way. It's not necessarily malicious. Much of it is practical - you have to be careful about introducing certain information to the wider public because you could easily set of lots of panic or some other kind of disruption just by giving the wrong impression. But at the same time it does make you question how much self interest there is in what people are told.

Although if I had to pick a character I admired most on Buffy it probably would be Buffy. I focus a lot on Willow and Tara as role models, but my favourite character is Buffy.

I guess... heh... I shouldn't feel bad about watching The L Word. But... I still feel all secretive. Like this part of me is something to carefully hide. It takes me back to when I found Lip Service, the BBC version of The L Word on... it must have been an early version of BBC iplayer, once. I actually watched that on tv when my family were out because... well... I mustn't have known how to watch it online. But also with the liking friends and not telling people really... I think I did tell the one guy friend I had. But for a long time even though I sort of understood that it wasn't a norm because I didn't have a template to explain it to myself, I still just didn't understand it in this way. I didn't think I fitted that category because I wasn't exactly a very sexual person. So... I don't know. It seems weird that I should try to obfuscate it online to people who already know when it's a perfectly reasonable thing to do. But it's a hard habit to break.

I find it kind of sad that I have to scavenge for things to try to relate to like that. It's difficult. And I'm not even sure how much I relate to them. I was thinking recently that even now... it's hard to come to terms with the reality of how things must therefore be; much less normalise it. Even when I try to behave as if this is who I am, I still feel as if it's hardly real; as if the illusion is so paper-thin it could shatter at any moment. It's hard to make myself believe that this is a possible thing; and harder to understand how to do it or have the confidence to engage it.

I mean, on the one hand it's the most obvious thing to me in the world, and on the other it's the least comprehensible in real world terms.

Maybe. But doesn't that take some of the point out of it? I could always just go next week. I would probably be really spaced out if I went today.

Well my character doesn't have it at the moment, but I just know that there are different colours of magic and with black you get invisibility at higher levels.

Also, for those who were wondering, the LARPing was a lot of fun. I get to keep the metal money! At least while I'm in the society. I also get to keep the laminated cards which show what equipment I've bought. We got helped with finding clothes and choosing a character archetype and then we got taught basically how to use our weapons. After that we went on a mini adventure where we arrive in the city and fight off some bandits and a werewolf. Then we talked to people in the tavern for a while. I'd come up with a decent backstory for my character so my ESFP friend and I decided we were sisters and we'd basically stick together. I'm the quiet, intelligent one and she's the talker who knows what's happening around us. We also ended up calling each other 'sister' all the time. We joined the city guard, the mercenary guild and found a priestess for our belief system. So that was all pretty cool. We got tired and left after a couple of hours, though.

Awesome. I'm sure I'll post about it. Coming up with a character is hard work, though. I have a feeling that the hardest parts will be coming up with a name (I hate naming things) and acting.... Although maybe it will be remembering what my character is and what they stand for.

So far, they basically come from Russia, they are human, they are a rogue/scout with a short sword and they have come as a Holy Warrior to spread the faith of The Crofter which basically thinks that your afterlife is determined by how hard you work in life and dislikes people that don't seek to improve their own fates (according to The Crofter). They wear a cloak. Might have dark magic (for invisibility... I think). They're from far away so they don't know anything that's going on. They come from a world where life is what you make it; including the law. So they aren't very good at following a set code of law. They have 40 money left out of the 100 they can spend.

Also I'm going to follow the golden rule of assuming ignorance.

The hardest part might actually be remembering what skills I have and how to use them.

So that's as far as I've got. I'm still not sure about the name. Also it doesn't help that I always think up male characters with male names if I manage anything and I'm female. Sigh.

OOH. What about Mikhaila? It's based on the Russian name Mikhail, which I really like.

Er, I guess the written podcast would be written with a view to explaining and being read aloud, I suppose? The essay would be more about creating an argument, although it might also be about explaining things; just in a more verbose and critical and less readable way.
