i’m honestly so in love with your portrayal of ivar, you see him as more than the villain ( a lot of people just see that part of him ) but to see you dive into more of his personality makes me so honoured to be a follower of you, you understand him so well and i’m just completely in awe of you and your portrayal of him ok i’ll stop rambling now but you’re amazing and doing so great at capturing his voice
This is extremely late, like, many many months later, but I kept your message all this time and it’s been so encouraging to come back to these kind words of yours. First and foremost, I hope YOU are having a good time taking time off of Tumblr. I wish you the best of luck during that time, ( and beyond, ) and I hope you are safe and sound ! Now, again, thank you so much for this kind message and actually mentioning something that is extremely important to be upon portraying Ivar. I don’t consider him a villain. I do not think he’s a good person either. He’s a young man with very strong and stubborn beliefs. Who is prideful and ambitious as well as consumed by hatred. He’s definitely an antagonist to people of his own culture as well as to the Saxons, but he’s not the villain. Somehow that definitely IS an impression many people have concerning his character, as well as Aslaug’s. I can definitely understand that belief because it also depends on the point of view you prefer yourself. Since I am writing Ivar and thus I am very biased, ( as well as simply ignoring some ‘canon’ decisions from the show, ) I just can 100% empathize with his motivations and I am a strong believer that he’d be a lot easier to reason with in general if his mother wasn’t murdered, or if his own brothers would actually keep their word about avenging her death. He becomes an antagonist by circumstances, not because he is a villainous character by nature. Which doesn’t mean he was a good person before. He wasn’t. But in the end he only pushed back that hard because he refuses to be a victim which, one way or the other, he would have been otherwise. Even after all those months ? I am just as stubborn about how I want to portray him, even if that means to dismiss half of the decisions the show made concerning his interpretation.
