that being said, i am a white person (eastern european jew to be exact, but white as all hell) and nisha is definitely a woman of color. i, personally, do not feel super comfortable cosplaying as characters of color, u no?
like at the end of the day there are so many white characters from me to choose from that don’t involve me appropriating an identity that isn’t mine. even though borderlands exists in an alternate universe where concepts of race and racism might not exist - she’s still a WOC and i am not and even though if i did wear the costume i certainly would not do any form of black/brownface, it’d still feel, to me, like an appropriative gesture.
this is just how i feel. how other people choose to cosplay is their business - i just have listened to the cosplayers of color in my life, how they feel about such things, and made a decision for me, as a cosplayer.
