Just wanted to know why you feel that way about triss bcs I haven't finish the game & never played the previous games. I don't really know the whole story. & I'm okay with spoilers if there's any.
Its a combination of several factors. But just in case there are people who don’t want spoilers I’ll put this under the cut.
In the books Geralt and Yennefer have a very long and very rocky backstory. Both Yennefer due to being a sorceress and Geralt due to being a witcher are infertile, and Yennefer always wanted to have a ‘traditional’ female happiness, which Geralt couldn’t really give her. She was even trying to find happiness with another man, only to realize than he wasn’t what she wanted. The reason why people vote for Triss is that in some part of the story Yennefer summons a genie and Geralt helps her fight it (or I dont remember how it went exactly), but they nearly died, and Geralt, in order to save Yen’s life, made a wish to the genie to tie himself to Yen. So basically no matter what they do or where they end up they were bound to this connection and they would eventually find themselves together. Some people seem to think, and thats what the third game lets you do, that Geralt’s love to Yen and vice versa is atributed to magic and not to real feelings. Although the books hinted strongly that they are in fact each other’s true love and magic has nothing to do with it. Yen’s quest in the third game is based around getting rid of this magic bonding.
Then there’s Ciri. By the books Geralt sort of becomes a father to her, and Yennefer a mother. Ciri is the child that is not theirs, but they love her as their own. They form a sort of dysfunctional family. And I believe Ciri treats them as her adopted parents.
Now about Triss - throughout the books Triss knows what is going on between Yennefer and Geralt, but being obsessed with him she lies and constantly tries to put herself between them. The games make it worse. In the first game Geralt has amnesia, he talks about a sorceress that he loved and Triss sort of pretends that its her, she says nothing about Yennefer, doesn’t tell him about Ciri, nothing at all. Which is understandable for a woman that wants a man badly, but doesn’t mean that knowing the whole story I need to like her for that. The first game also gives you a choice at a certain point whether to side with Triss or with another girl - Shani. Even if you side with Shani and avoid Triss like a plague, the second game literally nullifies that choice. There the first thing you do is basically wake up in bed with Triss and nothing is mentioned about Shani. Then throughout the entire second game Triss acts like your damned girlfriend. I felt she was very forced. Granted I feel the same way about any character that is forced on me. I feel the same way about Liara in Mass Effect for example. I don’t even mind her character that much, but the whole combination of books and games makes me dislike her more.
Yennefer is in no way perfect, and she is sometimes much colder than Triss. But I felt that Triss, in addition to being a manipulator and a lier, was trying to get in between people that were in love, and also trying to break their dysfuntional little family with Ciri in the middle. And I have a thing for family, so I guess for me it will always be Yennefer all the way.
I apologize in advance for my bad English, I suck at descriptive writing :) or if it sounded like a rant. I didn’t want to rant :) Is the wall of text hidden? It shows unhidden for me and I can’t change it :(
