My final song was for Naeem. To try and reflect Naeems personality it had to be warm and comforting with a touch of soul and sass. After failing repeatedly to create a warm rich sound, I played about with it a bit and ditched the warmth idea and went straight to a sassy bluesy idea. Easier for me to write, definitely more playing to my strengths. I think because this was the last one I attempted, I got more ambitious but also it meant that I drifted away into my own little world making it kind of frantic at the end, which is not indicative of Naeem at all. But I still really enjoyed the end product. I guess if you listen to all of the pieces together, you can get a pretty clear idea of the things I do when I'm composing. I like to have themes and build them up and repeat them. I like to play with rhythms in basslines. I like throwing in obscure chords for the sake of it some times. But it's been great to have a challenge and a deadline to actually work on something again. Hope to do something similar again in the future.
