My greatgrandfather used to be an exorcistare they like special powers? Could I have inherited them?
Okay you probably didn't expect me to go into detail about this ish, but in short, I believe so. My great grandfather could exorcise and heal, and say what you want but I believe in the concept of jinn and the unseen. He passed his "power" or "blessing" (according to sufi tradition these kinds of feats are only possible by the super pious after the blessing by a sufi saint) to my great uncle who can also perform these things, but at a much lesser extent. I hope that I'm the next to get it because my great uncle doesn't get on very well with his own son hah.
My final song was for Naeem. To try and reflect Naeems personality it had to be warm and comforting with a touch of soul and sass. After failing repeatedly to create a warm rich sound, I played about with it a bit and ditched the warmth idea and went straight to a sassy bluesy idea. Easier for me to write, definitely more playing to my strengths. I think because this was the last one I attempted, I got more ambitious but also it meant that I drifted away into my own little world making it kind of frantic at the end, which is not indicative of Naeem at all. But I still really enjoyed the end product. I guess if you listen to all of the pieces together, you can get a pretty clear idea of the things I do when I'm composing. I like to have themes and build them up and repeat them. I like to play with rhythms in basslines. I like throwing in obscure chords for the sake of it some times. But it's been great to have a challenge and a deadline to actually work on something again. Hope to do something similar again in the future.
Self Saturday: On my holidays
I am talking to you now from beyond the queue. At the time this sends, I will be on a bus heading into the centre of London, to meet the lovely Naeem, and I am very very excited! So as I'm away Saturday and Sunday, I got organised and queued this and tomorrows posts on Friday. So hope everyone has a great weekend, I'll probably post pics and stories when I get back :)
