Inzwi! A call for attention. As the Lucid Lunchbox has turned 5 years, this event threw against the walls a wake-up call to grapple with our collective heritage and struggles, our fears and points of departure in order to envision futures. The videos selection was eclectic, drawing from Rhodes Fine Art students' work to contextual documentaries and continental productions. Halfway through the Festival, the seminar room hosted a series of talks, engaging with artists, curators and scholars on a variety of topics - Podcasts available Here. Thought out as a platform for exchange, critical confrontation and interdisciplinary inspiration, the Lucid Lunchbox is taking over a section of the Fine Art building with gathering intentions. The set up allows for an immersive visual and auditive experience while acting as a space for dialogue and encounter. The videos on display address matters of identity (social, political and/or fictional), social engagement and activism, religious and spiritual practices in African contexts, race and white supremacy and finally, patronizing relations in the art world. Borrowing the words of Weléla Mar Kindred, the choreography of this event as the ones that have been propelling black body politics in recent movements are of "communal healing, strength and solidarity".
