What is Nagaens society like? Mainly meaning the day-to-day life of the people, but also whatever else y'all want to talk about with that.
Depends on the tribe! But for the most part, they commit to whatever job was divined for them and give 100% effort into doing it to the best of their ability. They take great pride in their skills and their knowledge, and oral tradition is just as important to them as books and scrolls. So, teaching of any sort is a revered profession, and adults who continue learning while managing their professions are seen as admirable role models. Handicrafts are especially valued - basket weaving, calligraphy, painting, cloth weaving and dying, embroidery. They themselves mostly wear sashes and scarves, but they often make money by crafting clothing for other races and exporting it. Their prowess with fine materials like handwoven sheer muslin is unmatched. They also admire singers, as music is a great way to retain information - they love educational ballads and stories.
Usually roughly a third of a tribe is dedicated to food gathering. They’re excellent at ambush and trap hunting, but obviously chasing after herds is kind of out of the question (no leggies, and it takes a lot of energy for them to move fast much less over sustained distances). A lot of their diet is fish and agriculture-based. They consume a LOT of carbs and glucose to keep those big snakey bodies going!
Divination and fortune telling via the stars is, oddly enough, pretty important to them! They won’t even get married to someone unless the stars say they’re a match. A lot of people get their fortunes told on a weekly basis, but even the most skeptical of them will at LEAST get their fortunes during the Star Festival (A time of year where there’s a huge meteor shower visible from Riariti for a whole week).
Nagaens are usually fairly comfortable with varying levels of nudity, but personal bubbles are important. Touching a Nagaens without permission is just asking for a mean bite! If you make them really uncomfortable, you’ll find out just how skilled they are at wielding those tails like enormous whips! Touch is a very intimate thing for them, as is the sharing of personal information/personal secrets. If a Nagaens trusts you with something embarrassing about themselves, it’s a confession of affection.
