The dragon lets out a surprised laugh. "Is that so? Fascinating. Though… if you're not scared of me…" She leans back in, her hot breath ghosting over his cheek and neck and making him shudder again. She purrs into his ear,
"Then why is your heart racing?"

Kaina turned to her student, perch on the roof next to her, chicken skewer in hand. It wasn't often that they finished the mission early enough to stay out and simply enjoy the nothingness before the two of them were due to report back.
"Do you ever think what you would be if the Commission didn't take you in?"
"Dead." Hawks didn't even skip a beat as he took another bite, and god wasn't that depressing.
Kaina gave him a playful shove, watching as the crimson wings fluttered out to keep him from falling off the side of the building. "You little shit, give me the fantasy."

Fantastic. Absolutely fantastic. Just their luck, she assumed. Of course, it would pick tonight of all nights to go out. The coldest night they’ve had so far this season and they don’t have heat. Ugh.
It was five in the morning and it was also so incredibly cold during these winter months. There was a chill that ran down her spine as she sat up and scratched at her head, stretching and shivering as she let out a huff, seeing her own breath, to which she grew annoyed. She hugged herself, rubbing her hands up and down her arms to try and get warm, to feel warm, though of course not even that worked.

They had never actually met one another, never interacted outside of talking through the shared wall between them, but somehow it all fell into place. The conversations came so naturally, and they had become a familiar, comforting presence.
And it wasn’t just because there wasn’t anything else to do while one spent their life behind bars in Tartarus.
The conversations were few and far between with other inmates. Many kept to themselves, and others found a great interest in harassing the guards, which always ended up with someone getting hurt. So the fact that the two of them had managed to find each other and share these somewhat normal moments together was nice.

Miruko is a wildcard, untethered to any agency or organization, and the Hero Public Safety Commission, bastions of law and order, have concerns.
That’s why Lady Nagant has a new mission: Befriend Miruko, find her weaknesses, and persuade or blackmail her into joining any sort of group where her intensity and out-of-the-box heroing could be tempered.
The mission seems lighter than Lady Nagant’s usual confidential missions, but there’s a catch: If she can’t get Miruko under control, she’ll have to kill her. And unfortunately, Miruko’s not making it easy for her to avoid the terminal option.

His face seemed to relax ever so slightly at that. “And?”
Nagant took a deep breath. Although she knew what giving away information would get her, she needed Overhaul to trust her, and it didn’t help that she agreed with him more than she originally thought. She was really going to admit it.
“And you’re right. It’s… all gone to hell and I don’t even know what I’m supporting anymore.”
To Lady Nagant, the commission was her whole life, they made that very clear. Resigned to her fate, she could do nothing but obey, despite the guilt of her actions and orders that was eating her alive. But what if an encounter with an up-and-coming, elusive drug lord were to change that, and push her down a new path in life? To offer her freedom and the chance to make her life her own again?

That’s what she’s decided on.
To choose tenderness instead of roughness, calm instead of war, plants and potions instead of blood and fire. To choose this life with Rumi instead of what awaits her in the South Kingdom if ever she goes back.
or; Kaina, a wounded soldier and witch hunter, was saved by Rumi, a witch, who was only so kind and hospitable to Kaina, which is unlike what she knew about witches growing up - manipulative, users of dark magic, and curse bringers.

A regular traveling trader with no ties to [CENSORED] and no more senses that led her down paths of trouble. Of course, it was just a dream. One moment she's going to trade shark hide, the next she's got a broken leg, a tiny dragon imprinted on her, a new (relatively hot) giant woman, a therapist session, and another hit on her from [CENSORED].
