Guitar Friends Meeting, vol. 6

So I missed Volume 5 (last summer) which meant it’d been over a year since I’d last seen Tuti and Nagayan strut their stuff, and MAN HAVE I MISSED IT.

They’re both so amazing together, making each other laugh and being stupid and having so much history. IT’S SO MUCH FUN WATCHING THEM.

The setlist, as usual, was pretty much nothing but songs I’d never heard of, lol, but the guys always write at least 1 or 2 original songs themselves, and that was the main focus of my attention this time. Usually they’re of middling quality--Nagayan’s got more experience and better pipes, so his tend to be more “song-ish” rather than stupid funny scribblings like Tuti’s XD

But Tuti’s song this time, on the theme of “secrets” given to them last time, was really...serious. And quite good. And really sad??

It was SO not a Tuti song, which makes me REALLY WONDER about where he was when he wrote it. The little bit of the lyrics I caught were about the singer wishing he’d met this person he’s singing to sooner, because then he’d have had more time to share a life together, more chances to tell them he loved them, and it opens with lyrics like, “You stared down at the ground, holding my hand, and said ‘We were better off as friends’“ and I was just standing there in the crowd trying not to GAPE because HOW THE FUCK IS THAT A TUTI SONG? HOW DID HE WRITE SOMETHING SO SERIOUS AND DEPRESSING AND GOOD??

Like, Tuti is crazy and fun and bright and everything BUT serious; he didn’t even want to write a song on the theme of ‘Spring’ because he told Nagayan it didn’t suit him D: SO WHERE DID HE PULL LYRICS LIKE THAT FROM??

For shippy stuff, though: their first duet together that evening was a really upbeat love song. THEY SANG A LOVE SONG TOGETHER. And it had SUPER sappy lyrics like--OH WAIT NEVER MIND I FOUND THE SONG. “Banzai! Suki de Yokatta” (Woohoo! I’m so glad I fell in love with you)

It’s a super fun song and the chorus goes:

Yay! I’m so glad I fell in love with you! From now on, until the day I die, I’m gonna be happy! Banzai! I’m so glad I met you! From now on, until the day I die, it’s gonna be lalala just the two of us.

And the best thing was that Tuti gets all serious and stuff, keeping his eyes on the music, but during the Banzai! I’m so glad I met you! part, Nagayan KEPT SNEAKING THESE SUPER FOND LOOKS and sdlifuhslidfusf I hate them I hate them so much.

But let’s be real. You wanna wear about the TeniMyu stuff don’tcha?

They did it for the encore, coming back out and reminiscing about the very first time they did a Guitar Friends event, and how they tried singing TeniMyu songs then, but they had to do it acapella because they didn’t know the songs on guitar, BUT THEY’D COME PREPARED THIS TIME.

Yup, Tuti sang Oishi’s Depend on Me with all his heart while strumming along on the guitar (complete with the opening’s breathy “Eiji, genkai na no ka?” that made everyone in the room titter XD), and as SOON as it was over, Nagayan chimed in with “OISHI! OMATAHE! Juuden kanryou da yo~~~n!” and started in with Juuden Kanryou and slidufhslidufhsildfs

IT’S THE NEXT BEST THING TO ACTUALLY SEEING THEM IN THEIR SEIGAKU UNIFORMS BOUNCING AROUND ON STAGE ;; because they still do all the lines (Tuti doing Oishi’s little “Korya taihen~” and “Eiji, we need to get back to the stage now!” and stuff KILLED ME.) and the voices and it just, UGH. IT’S BEEN 10 YEARS NOW SINCE THEY PERFORMED THESE ROLES.

10 YEARS.

AND THEY ARE STILL BFFS AND STILL DOING THESE POINTLESS SOLO EVENTS TOGETHER AND STILL PERFORMING TOGETHER ON STAGE AND STILL POSTING STUPID PHOTOS OF EACH OTHER ON THEIR BLOG AND STILL TALKING SHIT ABOUT EACH OTHER (Nagayan spent like 10 minutes talking about how Tuti likes to sleep during rehearsals and how that was fine with BuriMyu because everyone was around the same age, but when they did ShibaTora together [fuck, that was YEARS AGO], it was SUPER EMBARRASSING finding Tuti out cold on a couch with their super experienced costars around)

They closed the event with a promise to hold their next one before summer hits! We’ll see if that actually happens XD
