What makes a name suddenly pop—and then die? Social scientists and historians have been puzzling over this for decades.
One minor odd thing about moving to the UK from the U.S. is realizing that "Simon" is a very common name here, but it's not a common name in the U.S. Like, at one point in my work, I was regularly meeting with no fewer than three different Simons, and that would just never happen in the U.S. It's such a random little regional difference!

Average Scrabble score of US names, weighted by usage
The average Scrabble score is increasing, but the trend falls apart when we weight by the number of usages.
It's important to weight by the number of usages because we want to consider the number of babies actually given each name.
Scrabble points from here:
1 point: E, A, I, O, N, R, T, L, S, U 2 points: D, G 3 points: B, C, M, P 4 points: F, H, V, W, Y 5 points: K 8 points: J, X 10 points: Q, Z
They keep using my name in trendy Netflix movies now...
I’m really not a fan.
Stop it. We had Fern Gully, that was enough.
You’ve done enough. I do not require equal representation, please stick with your hannahs, sarahs, and Elizabeths.
Or just get really inventive and go wild. Different spellings don’t count.
That’s all.
