At what point in evolution does an animal no longer classify as whatever it was that it's ancestors were?

Dude… I actually don’t know. Like, I feel like I should know, but I don’t. I feel like it’s one of those complicated things and maybe depends on the Class of animal, but I just don’t know (yet). I googled around a little with no luck, and I won’t dig deeper for now because I’ve got a headache. But tomorrow that’ll be my mission probably. I wish I had a better answer for you. I feel kinda dumb now. haha
