Sorry if this seems out of the blue, but I have a theory about Nanashi and wanted to get your thoughts. Pretty much everytime this guy appears, something terrible happens (Kitarō getting shot, the whole curse app debacle, the West vs. East Yokai War, etc.) My theory is this: What if Nanashi is a Tatarigami?

I don’t know enough about the subject to weigh in properly, but that would be neat!! The show is always about either youkai or humans, so having a sort of cursed god on the playing field would be interesting indeed. I do feel like he’s an embodiment of negativity of sorts which can be a curse in and of itself - and they say there’s a god for everything.

sorry to ask your your opinion in time like this, But after your last theory about Mana's final curse mark,I have my theory-that i need to pull of my chest.Did you notice that Mana never shows her negative-aura?( Even in ep-25 her classmates shows their negative-aura,Nanashi however shows his aura without limit & seems to have some connection with Mana).So could be Nanashi is Mana's own negative emotions that she somehow throw away?

I have noticed that! Mana’s such a nice girl, never thinking badly about anyone... which is why I think it would be very interesting if and when she finally did show some negative energy =X

It’s a very interesting theory, but I personally don’t think Nanashi is a part of Mana based on how he acts towards her. He seems to view her as a tool rather than something very familiar, and he gives off the feeling of being a very old entity. I think if he were made from Mana’s negative emotions, it would be more apparent that he’s acting on her subconscious desires to lash out at people. It is a kids show after all, so if that was the angle they were taking I think it might require a few hints.

Those are just my thoughts though!

I read of the Kotoribako you say before and it makes my wondering🤔The mystery girl thats runs in fear in Nanashi's image,it could be Mana herself! My guess is Mana's curse is filed with so much dark energy(Wood=hate,Fire=sorrow,Earth= madness)that it will infected the people so much that they think that she the cause of all the disaster she brought and try to kill her,But by doing so it will cost the gates of hell to be open!😈 Oh and the red image could be a twist vision for Mana's fate?🤔

I’m terribly sorry Anon!!! I’ve been caught up with so many things these past few weeks - I’d been wanting to reply at a time when I had more energy, and now look at how long it’s been.

Long story short, I don’t think the girl in the flashback is Mana herself but perhaps a reincarnation of sorts, or else just another victim of Nanashi’s. Her assailants are dressed in rustic, traditional Japanese garb similar to peasants of the sengoku period, and attacking her with swords. Bandits, maybe? The flashback is occurring in the distant past, in any case. I took the scene to be Nanashi thinking back on fond memories… if he has anything that can be called that.

I really like your idea of folks being driven to hunt her down though! Although I feel like Mana is always running for her life - I wouldn’t mind a more solitary rescue of her being whisked away by Nanashi and lure Kitaro to him as an alternative.
