Life on Nanchang Lu
Sometimes one just needs a dose of Shanghai. I'm not talking about the glitzy lights, tall buildings and fancy stores, I'm talking about the charming small alleyways and neighborhood stores that evoke those smells and memories of Shanghai people like myself hold dear but are so distant from most of the time.
I discovered this blog, Life on Nanchang Lu, in high school and have been a regular visitor since then. Fiona is an Australian ex-pat who moved to Shanghai with her family for work reasons, and chronicles her life adjusting to the city. She lives on an adorable street in the French Concession called Nanchang Lu (I visited this summer, it is actually one of the most charming streets in the city, not too crowded, full of cute shops). Most of her posts revolve around food, which pleases me very much, but she also has many interesting cultural anecdotes, for example, on swearing in Shanghainese and the like. Fiona writes in a very engaging manner and is also an amazing photographer. Click into her blog and you'll feel like you've been whisked to Shanghai...
