I'm so sad to learn that we have lost one of the greatest treasures of Afghanistan. I first met Nancy in kabul in 2002. She was friends with my parents, and my mother knew her from way back in the early 60s when she first moved to Afghanistan. Nancy dedicated so much of her lifetime to Afghanistan. She was a historian and archeologist, and she created such a valuable archive of Afghan resources. These photos are from a trip when i visited her beautiful beautiful building at Kabul University a few years ago. I was so blown away by the archive she showed us. I was supposed to see her last year, and we couldn't figure out which entrance to drive onto the campus. Between traffic and our miscommunication, I'm sorry to say we missed her. I had a feeling it was the last chance to see her... deep gratitude and respect for you Nancy, a true Afghan you were in spirit. The last thing Nancy expressed to me, was her frustration with how her students would face economic hardship and few opportunities. She earnestly wished for, and worked hard for, Afghan youth to thrive. RIP Nancy 🙏🏽 #nancydupree
