hey, sorry to bother you (ignore this if u want), but that post u just reblogged about "why be straight and cis when you could be-" and it talked about the gender binary being colonial and imperialist (may be phrasing that wrong)? I never heard that before, could you hmu with an article or an explanation for it?
i can look for links, and if anyone else has any that would be appreciated! but it’s a fact that the western patriarchal conception of a strict male/female gender binary is not native to a number of cultures, whose own gender concepts have often been suppressed by colonialism. some examples you could look into of accepted nb genders in non-western cultures are the fa’afine in the pacific islands region and the various two-spirit identities found in native cultures of north america.
