Framing in Filmmaking [Exercise 1]
“Cinema is a matter of what’s in frame and what’s out.” - Martin Scorsese.
‘Centre Framing’ and the ‘Rule of Thirds’ describe the two main compositions for shots.
Whilst aligning the subject to a ‘third’ is ideal to draw attention to the subject, by using the empty space to direct our eyes to a specific part of the image, it can also portray loneliness by isolating the subject.
Conversely, ‘centre framing’ a subject creates a sense of visual symmetry, using the positioning to create balance. It can also create a sense of belonging by embedding them in their surroundings.
Each shot type can portray different emotions as well as being a useful storytelling device and, used appropriately, add to the overall viewing experience.

Why gender neutral toilet are needed. Unknown Territory is an awareness campaign that is seeking to fill the informative gap of transgender at the Napier University asking for gender neutral toilets.This initiative is to educate, create safe spaces for now -binary and a bridge between people as for making transgender more visual and normalise their current position in society.
