          He could not blame the shadow user for that, for thinking that their demeanour was oddly placed. Their appearance alone was never something which anyone should go off of, but this was not something he could argue with. They radiated a dark type of chakra, their aura as dark to match. There was a bitten back huff as arms crossed over his chest, eyes never leaving the individual in question.

When he was sure he had the other’s eye on him, he gave a subtle nod of his head, as if agreeing with him. Shikamaru was always a strong judge of character, and his intelligence allowed him to see deeper than just the face of those around them. While he might not have the greatest verse in truly judging another, he was certainly right about this.

The individual in question had appeared suddenly. and while such was not unusual by any means, Gaara could not tell their intent. He could not run the risk of people getting hurt, even if it would mean jumping the gun on what they were up to. He knew that people ought not be judged by outward appearance, and that fronts could be made, but was he willing to put that much faith in someone?

Not today.

"Keep an eye on them." whispered the Kage as he stepped closer to the Konohagakure native. "If they seem to be up to something… Subdue them with your shadow." only when the words left his mouth did he finally turn from the beings in question. Shikamaru was fully capable. He did not have any reason to think this stranger would be able to best him. And, if they did, Gaara’s sand would finish whatever began.

To Fulfill his Duties || AU || nara-shadow

"So much paperwork... I'm hungry dattebayo."

Forehead pressed against his already resting arms, a deep sigh escaping as the paperwork remained untouched. The one thing he had never been good at was this very thing, even back when he was a genin. He just never saw a need for it, but now was a completely different story. Not only was it important to get it turned in, but getting it processed and looked at was just as necessary. How did Tsunade get through all of this? No wonder she drank and went out most of the time... Maybe that's what he needed, a break.

He'd already taken like three though... Maybe no one would notice if he took another? He could hear Ichiraku's calling his name now. Were Hokage's even allowed to take breaks? Oh man... He could hear his right hand man scolding him already.

A knock on the door interrupted his famished thoughts, wondering if he should even say a word. He was sure it was just one of the ANBU operatives reporting in, or one of the jounin turning in more paperwork. That was the last thing he needed. Might as well get it over with and add it to the pile of other things to do.

"Come in dattebayo!"

He exclaimed with the rest of the energy he had, words slightly muffled considering his head still faced the hard surface of the desk.

Anatomy slowly raised, not paying attention to who was in front of him before starting. "You can set whatever you have next to the other paperwork."
