Pairing: Javier Peña x fem!reader (cowgirl!reader???)
Author’s note: goddammit is this gonna be a thing
Summary: Javi struggles to assimilate back into civilian life in Texas until an old friend returns [1.5k]
Warnings: Texas Javi my beloved, language, addictive tendencies, PTSD symptoms, Javi + Steve 4eva, reader has a brother, southernisms, pining, yeah there’s probably gonna be a part two 🙄
Javi really did try his best to leave Colombia and the ghosts that pricked at his memory every time he turned a familiar corner. He wanted to do better. He felt he had to. Too many people died for him to just throw away his chance at life, but the days were long and hot, and he was so fucking tired. The nicotine patches stopped working, and the bottle suddenly wasn't enough to convince himself he was doing what he was sent to do. That he was doing the right thing. That he was a good person.
He expected the feeling to leave him once he left the imaginary borders of Colombia and returned to the northern valley. He thought working with his dad and getting his feet back under him after years of being pushed and pulled at Reagan's whim would feel better than shaking down teenagers for narco information. Of course, it didn't disappear in the cacti and hazy horizons of Loredo or the arms of his father. It's only been a couple of hours, Peña, he thought. Give it some time. Who knows? Blistering Texas sunsets might be good for burning the blood off his hands.
Except everybody in his small town knew of his exploits in Latin America. They knew his name was plastered to boxes full of evidence against the cartel and then some. They knew Chucho's boy was some kind of fucked up veteran or hero or whatever they wanted to call him. He avoided going into town more than necessary when he first got home because of how often he got stopped. It didn't matter if he was going to the hardware store, HEB, or the mechanic. Somebody ended up talking to him about Escobar or Cali. He couldn't escape his past even thousands of miles away from it. The only good thing about his newfound fame was the free drinks people pushed his way in the shit hole bar just on the outskirts of town.
He tells himself to slow down, what with the early mornings and long days he's working, but it'd be a dick move to turn down free drinks, right? Sometimes, Javi loses hours in the bar, betting money on pool, flirting with women passing through town, and telling war stories of the jungle and sicarios and whatever else comes spilling out of his loose lips. He tells himself he's coping the best way he knows how when he comes down for breakfast looking and feeling like shit, his hair practically wet from lingering cigarette smoke, but he knows better.
His dad deals with Javi's vices the same way they dealt with his mother's death: inefficiently and without making a sound. The most Chucho does is shake his head and sigh when Javi comes stumbling in at some ungodly hour. What more could he do? Javi barely told his dad where he was in the world. How was he supposed to tell him what he'd done? What he saw? What he allowed? No, his dad can never know. It'll kill him. It'll kill Javi to retell.
Sometimes, Javi will call Steve and ask about Connie and the kids, and they'll act like they're old school buddies and not tethered together through tragedy and white powder. Steve will ask him about his sleep, and Javi will give some bullshit answer which makes Steve laugh. "Yeah, me too," he says one time. "Woke the baby up the other night 'cause I was talkin' again. Don't even know what about. Isn't that fun?" Javi doesn't give much away. He never does, but sometimes, it's just nice to know he's not alone in his struggle to get back to normal.
Javi is back in town for a full forty days before he finally stumbles across you. At first, he doesn't remember you or your first name. Your last name, however, rattles around his skull until he finally gets the courage to ask if he knows you as he stands in line at the store. "You look familiar." He says, making you laugh.
"I'd hope so. You were practically livin' in my house in high school." You say, throwing him back to his high school baseball days, spending time either in the field or on the ranch with your older brother. You were a little bit younger than him— the daughter of a weathered cattle rancher— and only caught his attention when you were in the way or being an obnoxious teenager. Man, did you grow up pretty, he thinks. Suddenly, he's hyperaware of his sweaty hair, rumpled shirt, and god-awful farmer's tan.
"Last I heard, you'd moved out of town," Javi says, crossing his arms over his chest and eyeing you carefully. The freckles dotting your face from all your time in the sun should be considered lethal, especially when you smile.
"Last I heard, you were engaged." Just as you did then, you don't hold your punches. The jab doesn't hurt, but it does make him laugh, an embarrassed blush crawling up his neck.
"Alright, you got me there," he says. "How's your brother?"
"Good. Married Suzanna a few years ago, and now they've got some babies running around."
"They live around here?"
"Dallas," you say. "Dillon thinks he's too good for us and decided to be a real estate agent out there instead."
"Sounds riveting," Javi says and you laugh. The line gets shorter and shorter as you talk, but he can't focus on anything but you. "And you? What's a pretty girl like you still doing in this shit hole?" Something behind your eyes flickers at the comment and you take a deep breath, suddenly all too aware of how hot it is today.
"Somebody's gotta get Daddy off the horse every once in a while."
"And what? Your mama can't do that for you?"
"She knows better than to keep tryin'. I'm just as stubborn as he is, so one of us'll win or give up before the other."
"Well, my money's on you." He says easily. You stare at each other for a little bit longer than necessary before the clerk calls you by name to get your attention. Your items are scanned, bagged, and paid for all in the span of a few seconds. You have no reason to linger in the checkout aisle, but you do, rocking on your boots' heels just a little.
"Don't be a stranger, Peña." You say, looking him over as if you're seeing him for the first time.
"I don't think this town's big enough for that." He says, and you chuckle.
"No, I don't think so either," you say. "Tell your dad I said hi." With all your Southern hospitality, you turn and leave. Javi watches you go until the clerk calls his name and breaks him out of it. Well, that and the sound of something crashing to the floor makes him reach for a gun he doesn't carry anymore. His shoulders brace for an explosion, and he can't catch his breath. He stares at the box and the broken jars in it as a pissed-off employee storms off to find a broom. He scoffs.
Javi has dealt with some of the most dangerous people in the world, and jams are what spike his adrenaline.
He tries to shrug it off and pay the cashier, but his ears are still ringing, and his heart is still racing when he climbs back into his truck. Fucking jam. He tries to forget about it as he drives home. He wants to forget about it. He wants to think of anything else.
If that happens to be your smile, the way your laugh fills the air, or the inconspicuous way you looked at him when he complimented you, it's just a coincidence.
When he gets home, he's craving a drink or a cigarette or something more physical to get his mind off of what happened. His shoulders slump with the weight of memory and Chucho sees. He always sees. He just doesn't know the right way to fix it.
"Y'know, uh… your friend you used to play baseball with?" He asks, seemingly out of nowhere, as Javi puts away the groceries. He furrows his brows and gives his dad a confused look.
"I had lots of friends I played baseball with."
"He was datin' that girl you went to Homecoming with when you were a freshman?" Of all the things his dad remembers, of course, it's that. Javi resists the urge to roll his eyes and grinds his teeth instead.
"Suzanna?" He asks and Chucho snaps his fingers in a way that tells him that was the right answer. "His name was Dillion. What about him?"
"Well, his dad heard you're back in town and invited us over for a barbecue," he says nonchalantly and Javi scoffs. "I'm not sure how he didn't know, but you know that old fucker's always out doin' something. Somebody probably told him something or the other. Anyway, you can say no. I told him you were still adjustin'."
"I'll go," Javi agrees too fast. "Might be good to… get outta the house. Wouldn't wanna be a stranger." Chucho is surprised but not displeased with Javi's answer, and they leave it as is.
It's just reintegrating into civilian life. It's just socializing. It's just a barbecue. It's not an interrogation or a raid. It's coping.
Apparently, coping could be really fun if he plays his cards right.

if you dare, come a little closer
~It was getting close to closing time. You were in no mood to go home to your empty apartment filled with memories that made everything feel dark and useless. You felt dark and useless.
This was the last pub on your slow trek from work to home, the long walk a seeming infinity, and you were glad for it. Nothing could distract you from your pain, however. The bars were all the same, filled with all the same people. Potential lovers approached you then veered away, sensing the loneliness on you that was too bleak even for them to fuck through. You were beyond saving.
You were only one block from your home, in a bar you'd never set foot in. This particular place played slow sad rock from the nineties, the perfect atmosphere for the broken, flayed spirit inside you. You didn't drink much, and your whiskey was your only companion. It didn't talk back. If it could it would probably grow legs and walk away from you.
You glanced again at the man at the bar, the one in the white shirt stretched across his broad back. He's been nursing his own drink, hunched over, a barrier to the outside world. Just like you.
He must have felt your eyes on him. He glanced up, meeting your eyes, and he didn't turn away. Finishing his drink, he motions to the bartender. Soon a new drink is brought to you, compliments of the well-dressed stranger. You accept it with a nod, and a small smile lifts the corners of his mouth.
You cupped the glass of whiskey in your hands, ruminating. Maybe this was your sign. Someone finally reached out, a wordless invitation, a lifeline in the form of a drink.
Looking up at him again, you returned his smile and got up from your seat to join him.
"Javier Peña," he introduced himself. His voice was velvet, his eyes dark pools that you wanted to drown in, and as you took a seat next to him you watched his smile grow as you gave him your name. Even if it was only for a night, at least you weren't alone.
AN: I could not help myself. Just a long drabble for now, not heavily edited, just a live action freak out. Don’t mind me.
Warnings: thot hours with feelings. Mentions of sex.
Usually, it was easy to concentrate but not lately. You’ve been fucking Javi for a long time now, so it was easy to be in work mode together, but Carrillo, well, it was complicated.
It was impossible to not notice Carrillo. From the moment you saw him, you wanted him. But it seemed impossible, so far-fetched it was easier to fantasize and move on. You didn’t think it would ever happen. He was too serious, too focused on his job to cross a line like that, or so you thought.
The night it happened, you met Carrillo to exchange intel at his favorite bar. You, him, and Javier have met there countless times, so nothing was out of the ordinary at first.
Everything was intensifying lately. Stress wasn't a big enough word to describe how you all felt. Everyone was becoming unhinged and seeking relief through comforts, even Carrillo. Just a few days before, you and Javi watched him aggressively interrogate a sicario. You still felt a bit ashamed of how turned on you were watching it.
As you sat across from Carrillo, talking about work over drinks, you could feel your body come alive. After giving him all the information you had, you found yourself glued to the seat. You didn’t want to leave, neither did Horacio.
So you stayed and ordered another round, then another. The stoic force of a man becoming more relaxed with each drink. He even makes a few jokes and you notice the way his eyes lingered on yours, and the way he checked out your form when you returned from the bathroom.
You were never sure if Carrillo thought of you that way, not until that night. His interest only feeds yours, you were hellbent on seeing how far the night would go. As you continue to talk, you lean in closer, flirting with your eyes and the way you linger the glass near your lips.
Carrillo's shirts were always tight, on the verge of bursting off as they could barely hold in his massive chest and broad back. But that night his shirt seemed tighter than usual and you imagined yourself ripping it off of him. The man was deliciously built like a damn truck, your mind wandered to all the possibilities of what he could do.
You lose time and only when the bar closes do you pull yourself from the table and out to the parking lot. You make a comment about not being able to drive and Carrillo offers his place to sleep it off. Further turned on by his protectiveness, you accepted the invitation and went to his place.
Once inside, you know you had to make the move. You could tell he wanted you, but he wouldn't risk it, not without a push. He gives you his bedroom and brings in fresh sheets. Carrillo tries to avert his eyes, but he can’t. You continue to undress as he slowly lowers the sheets on the bed.
Slipping out of your jeans, you set them aside and walk over to Carrillo, swinging your hips along the way. Your name falls from his lips in a desperate whisper as you grab the buckle of his belt; your eyes are locked on his.
As you part your lips to speak, Carrillo grabs your face with his hands. You could see him battling with himself as a fire burns in his brown eyes. Carrillo curses under his breath before crashing his lips into yours in a hungry kiss.
That was a month ago.
You never thought anyone but Javier could set your body ablaze; you were wrong. You and Javier weren’t exclusive, but it was clear you both had deep feelings for each other. If you were being honest with yourself, you loved him, and you knew he loved you too. But the both of you were too scared shitless to say it, to admit it.
Javier still saw other women on the side, or so you assumed, and you, well, you forced yourself to date. For a long time, you only wanted Javier and after a few hookups, you noticed you felt unsatisfied.
So instead of a bland hookup, you just waited for Javier. You knew it was silly, you knew he wasn't doing the same and sometimes it made you feel like a fool, still you did it anyway.
But Carrillo took you by surprise. You’ve been fucking for a month now but that wasn't the complicated part. The complicated part was the dinners, the mornings he would cook you breakfast, the tender moments you laid in bed just talking.
You knew this feeling, that warmth in your chest and joy in your heart. You felt it the moment you realized you loved Javier and a few days ago in bed as you watched Carrillo sleep.
It was love, that pesky all-consuming menace that caused you to bite your tongue when you stared in Javier's eyes too long or caught him watching you. That four-letter menace that danced on your tongue as Carrillo kissed your neck and whispered in your ear.
Your heart was torn, pulled in two directions.
As Javier continues to talk, wrapping up the meeting, you feel anxiety rising in your body, and from the quick glance Javier gives you, you know he can tell. Those warm brown eyes could calm you instantly, but not now, not when Carrillo is watching you as well.
How much longer could you keep this up?
Best friends with benefits denying their love with Javier and falling head over heels in a ridiculously fast-paced with Carrillo? Up until now, you kept it together, but you could feel yourself unraveling.
It would be easier if the night with Carrillo was just that, a night. You didn't expect this, you didn’t expect him to consume your life and heart like a fucking storm.
Suddenly short of breath, you interrupt Javier and excuse yourself, saying you needed some air. You quickly leave the room, avoiding both men's eyes on the way out.
Javier offers himself as a consultant to the new CIA agent in Colombia after learning her Spanish needs some work.

“Who’s the new girl?” Javier questioned. Steve shrugged his shoulders, still looking at the file in his hands. “CIA, I think.”
Javier scratched the back of his head and looked back down at the paperwork that littered his desk. He couldn’t resist peering up at you again through his lashes. You looked out of place, as if you were too put together. Your hair was tied back effortlessly, black skirt brushing dangerously above your knees. The top two buttons on your crisp white shirt were undone. Javier sucked in a breath. You looked anything but typical CIA.
“Wher are you going?” Steve called out after Javi.
“Stretching my legs!” he called back.
Javier trailed behind the group you were walking in. He examined the curve of your legs, elongated by the burgundy pumps you were wearing. Your skin looked soft, supple. He could tell you took care of yourself. He continued to make himself look busy in case you happened to turn around and stopped himself as you entered the CIA section of the Embassy.
Steve was smiling down at his paperwork, chucking, when he noticed Javier return. “You get some good intel?”
Javier shrugged. “Shut up, Murphy.”
After a few hours of shuffling through files, images and more reports than you wished to imagine, you got up from your new desk and walked to the common area. The coffee pot had been drained and you released your held breath. Your flight in last night had been delayed and with all the excitement of starting a new job today, you had barely slept last night. You fumbled around the nearby sink, looking to replace the empty pot.
“Do you require some assistance?” a voice behind you asked.
Startled, you took a deep breath in to still your heart, pounding through your shirt. You turned around to a handsome, dark haired man. “Yes,” you answered honestly. “I’m in desperate need of some more coffee.”
The man chuckled. “Well, you’re in luck, I happen to be an expert barista.”
You waved your hand towards the coffee pot. “By all means.”
He reached out his hand. “Javier Peña, DEA.”
“Y/N L/N, CIA.” You placed your hand in his and shook it gently.
Javier took a few scoops of the ground coffee beans you missed hiding behind the large coffee pot. “So,” he hummed, “what is it you do for the CIA here in Colombia?”
“Analytics,” you replied without missing a beat.
“Oh?” Javier perked up. “What exactly are you analyzing?”
You chuckled to yourself, leaning your ass against the sink and crossing your arms softly against your chest. “Wouldn’t you like to know, Agent Peña?”
You heard him chuckle, too. He grabbed a mug out of the countertops above the pot and pointed it at you. “Cream? Sugar?”
You smiled at him and responded with your preference. When he was done with your cup, he handed it to you. You wrapped your fingers around it, closing your eyes and inhaling the scent. He poured himself a cup and motioned for you to sit with him at a nearby table.
“Uh oh, what are they gonna think of us? CIA and DEA intermingling?” you joked. Javi smiled into his mug.
“How are you enjoying Colombia so far?” he asked you.
“Honestly, I only got in last night,” you admitted. You rubbed the back of your neck.
“Ah, so that’s what all that banging around was.”
Your eyes widened. You bit your lip and looked up at him. “I take it you’re next door then?” you asked sheepishly.
Javier chuckled again. “Don’t worry, you weren’t that loud. I just have a mild case of insomnia.”
You mouthed sorry at him and took another sip of your coffee. Javier smiled at you.
“Well,” you stood up from your chair. “I better get back to work.”
“Hasta luego,” Javier responded.
You pinched the bridge of your nose. The sun had set at least an hour ago and you were still buried deep in a Spanish to English dictionary. The one last thing you wanted to go over before leaving had ended up taking you way longer than you had expected. Your highest level of Spanish knowledge stopped in the 10th grade and you weren’t making progress very fast with your dictionary.
“You’re here late.”
You gasped, jumping off the edge of your seat. You legs banged against the underside of your desk.
You looked up from your desk to see Javier leaning against the doorframe of your office. His tie had been loosened, suit jacket nowhere to be seen. He smoothed down his mustache with his fingertips.
“I could say the same to you.”
He smiled at you. “Sorry for startling you.” He took a few steps into your office, looking down at your desk. “You know the Embassy doesn’t pay overtime, right?” he raised his brow.
You quickly covered the documents that were scattered around your desk. You bit your lower lip. “I am aware.”
“Then what exactly are you doing in here so late?”
You smiled up at him. “You know I can’t tell you that.”
He tapped your Spanish to English dictionary a few times. “¿Necesita ayuda?” Do you need help?
You laughed. “No,” you drawled out.
“Is that the only word you know in Spanish?” he joked.
“....No,” you couldn’t stop the laugh bubbling in your chest. Javi watched you closely as you bit your lip again. “Look, this job was kind of a last minute thing,” you admitted. “I’m not as prepared as I would like to be.”
Javi held his hand out for you. You grabbed it and let him help you up from your chair.
“Well I don’t know about you,” he started, “but I’m starving.” He walked out of your office and you trailed behind him. “I’ll give you a ride back to our places and we can pick up some food on the way? Maybe work on your Español?”
You pushed a pointed finger in his chest. “If this is your way of schmoozing some CIA information out of me, it’s not going to work Agente Peña.” Your lips curled upwards.
“Ah,” he exhaled, grabbing your finger in his large hand. “Two words then?” he asked.
You rolled your eyes and he smirked at you, dropping your hand from his. You followed him out of the building and to his Embassy appointed vehicle.
This is how your work nights ended everyday for almost a month. You worked until the sun would set, when you and Javier happened to always be the last ones in the building. You never asked why he was always staying late like you, but you had your suspicions. He would take you home with him, usually picking up some takeout on the way but a few rare times, he would cook for you. You would chat about your lives and what you could about work, but most importantly, Javier would help you with your Spanish. He never laughed at your pronounciations, only gently correcting you when you needed it. You were very grateful to him, as although you still weren’t a very fluent speaker, you had a lot easier time understanding and reading Spanish.
“Siempre te muerde el labio cuando te concentras”.
You looked up at him from your spot on his couch. You had a book of Colombian history settled in your lap. “I do what now when I concentrate?” you giggled.
Javi sat down next to you, his leg against yours. He finger brushed against your lower lip. “El labio,” he breathed.
“Lip,” you replied lowly.
Javi slowly leaned in towards you. You closed your eyes, mouth open slightly, but didn’t back away from him. His lips brushed against yours and you felt his teeth bite softly down onto your lower lip.
“Morder,” he whispered as his teeth let go.
“Bite,” you replied breathlessly, eyes still closed.
“Muy bien querida.” Javi grabbed the side of your face with his large hands. “Abre los ojos,” he commanded gently.
You opened your eyes and looked up at him. He was still holding you, eyes darkened. “Your Spanish is improving.”
You released a held breath and shook your head in agreement.
“Shall I... continue with the lesson?”
You paused, studying his face. You couldn’t help but to instinctually bite you lip. You shook your head again, words having escaped you. You could feel a knot forming in your lower abdomen, heat spreading throughout your entire body. Your cheeks felt warm.
Javier began slowly unbuttoning your shirt. “Botón,” he breathed.
“Button.” You sucked in a breath and held it.
Javier brought his mouth to your neck and bit gently, hands still working on your shirt. “Cuello,” he said in between bites.
It took you longer to respond this time. “Neck,” you exhaled. You were clenching your thighs together tightly, on instinct.
Javier’s lips traveled back up to yours and he kissed you slowly, passionately. His fingers had finished with your shirt and trailed along the edge of your skirt. It sent a shiver through your spine.
Javier broke off the kiss and you almost moaned. “Beso.”
He waited for your breathless reply before he continued. “Kiss.”
He brought his lips back to yours, hands unclasping your skirt. It was loose enough for him to trail along your panty, feeling the lace under his rough fingertips. If he went any lower, he would feel the wetness that was pooling below, between your legs.
He broke off the kiss again. “Quítate la ropa,” he commanded.
You did as he asked, quickly shedding your shirt and skirt. Javier did the same, leaving the both of you in only your underwear. He leaned back in with another kiss and unclasped your bra. You managed to shrug it off as his mouth stayed on yours. He cupped your breast in his hand, gently squeezing and playing with your nipples.
“Seno,” he said, looking into your eyes as he brought his mouth to your nipple. When you didn’t reply he stopped what he was doing called out your name. “Seno,” he repeated.
“Breast.”
Javier went back to work, mouth on one and hand on the other. You closed your eyes and arched your back, your foot rubbing against his leg. You could feel the tightness in your abdomen spreading lower and lower.
Javier began trailing kisses down your stomach. He stopped and put his finger under the rim of your panty and you lifted up to help him slide it off. His kisses started back up again, his moustache lightly scratching you.
He stopped after kissing your clit and looked up at you again. “Chocha.” He licked his lips in anticipation of your reply. You bit your lip and nodded for him to continue.
He called out your name as a warning. “Don’t tell me you want me to stop the lesson?” he questioned. You shook your head no, teeth digging furiously into your bottom lip. He smiled up at you. “If you stop, I’ll stop,” he threatened.
You wanted to roll your eyes at him but you simply smiled and shook your head. “Pussy,” you whispered.
That was all the confirmation from you that he needed to continue. His mouth explored your folds effortlessly. Your hands dug into the fabric of his couch, fingers clenched so tight you worried they would never leave the state you had them in. Your breath grew ragged and you struggled to keep yourself quiet.
Javier brought two fingers to your mouth and gently pushed them inside. You soaked them in saliva as best you could before he took them away. He started rubbing circles on you before he eased them inside of you, his tongue still expertly working it’s way around your clit.
Moans escaped you with every breath out. Javier’s fingers picked up the pace and your back strained into a perfect arch. “Javi, please,” you begged him. He hummed in response, refusing to leave your body. “Javi,” you whined, desperate. “Please.”
He raised his head and looked up at you with dark eyes. You could see the strain of his bulge against his boxers. “Yes, querida?”
You rubbed the back of your foot against his length. “Fuck. Me,” you whispered.
Javi’s mouth curled up into a smirk. He ripped his boxers off in one smooth motion and lined himself up to your entrance. He could tell you were soaked and as he slid inside you effortlessly you both let out a loud moan.
He kissed you in between slow pumps, but quickly realized he could pick up his pace. You were gripping the back of his hair in one hand and holding on for dear life onto his tricep with the other. His kisses were needy, sloppy and he eagerly explored your mouth with his tongue.
Eventually Javi grew tired of this position and he flipped you over onto your stomach. You stuck your ass in the air, waiting for his arrival. He pushed down on the back of your head until your cheek was placed firmly on the couch cushion.
He then grabbed your hands and put them against the small of your back. He clasped them in one of his hands and let the other trail along your backside. Once he was ready, he slammed himself back into you. Pure pleasure rippled through your body and you had a hard time keeping yourself pressed up against the couch. The sounds coming out of your mouth were euphoric as Javi continued to pound into you.
Javi’s pace grew faster and faster until you couldn’t stop your squirming. He reached with both hands towards your chest and pulled you into a sitting position against his back, pace slowly slightly. He caressed your front side, trailing up and down with his fingers and biting your neck as he did so.
He pace became less fast and more hard. He was slamming himself into you now that you couldn’t help but clench your walls around him. You whimpered his name. “Yes, querida?” he panted.
“I’m… I’m gonna…” you stopped to catch your breath. Javi stuck two fingers back in your mouth and you licked them eagerly. “Procede,” he commanded, rubbing circles on your clit.
After a few moments you lost control, your body giving out as you leaned against Javi for support. He followed not long after you, pulling himself out only after he placed his boxers underneath the both of you in order to catch his cum dripping out of you. You both lay on the couch, Javi’s arms wrapped securely around you.
After a few peaceful moments, Javi spoke up. Chuckling, he said “I think you still need a few more lessons.”
You buried your face in his chest and laughed with him.
*clears throat* prompt 9) wear you like a necklace (so it goes) with Agent Peña? 👀
another nasty NASTY jesus christ lmao, okay let's see how this goes (heh, get it?)
You bit your nail again, your thumb between your teeth and your hand in front of your mouth were hiding the desiring smile you couldn't get rid of.
"Really?" you heard beside you, Steve mocked you as he followed the path of your eyes, "you can't be more obvious."
You chuckled at him and pulled your hand away from your face, still looking at Javier, that walked towards the two of you with that stride of his legs that made him look like he owned the place.
"You ordered?" he asked, sitting in front of you on the table, Steve blew his cigarette smoke beside you and nodded.
"She ordered you a whiskey." Steve nodded his chin towards you, Javier grunted.
"Thanks." he let out, pulling out his own cigarette pack from the inside pocket of that leather jacket that haunted your dreams.
"Anytime." you replied, Javier chewed the inside of his cheek, his eyes glued to yours, you saw him fiddling with the nicotine stick on his fingers and he slowly put it between his lips. Your hand flew once again towards your face and you bit your nail in silence.
"Oh, c'mon," Steve growled out, leaning forward towards the middle of the table, "we all know you two fuck, drop the act."
"Steven!" you scolded him, pressing a hand on your chest in feigned offense, Javier chuckled at his partner. You leaned forward as well, your face almost too close to Steve's "we know everyone knows, we're not acting." you whispered.
"You disgust me." he let out, leaning back on his chair, making you laugh.
"We should go." Javier let out, looking at you with his lips around the unlit cigarette.
"We should," you replied, Javier stood up, rummaging inside his pocket for some bills while you grabbed your bag from the backrest of the chair, Steve looked at you both with exasperation and you looked at Javier with a mischievous smile, "c'mon, Agent Peña," you muttered a little too loud, "tonight I wanna wear you like a necklace."
"Shut the fuck up!" Steve grunted, making Javier chuckle and reach for your hand.

Warnings: ridiculous amounts of domestic fluff, dad!Javier, Javier was a nerdy kid don’t fight me on that, reader was also a nerdy kid, baby cutness, pregnancy kink, heavily implied rough smut
You can’t help but smile at the scene unfolding in front of you. Your husband, hair a mess and shirt stained with mustard, sitting on the floor with your eleven months old daughter on his lap. He appears to be acting out some kind of play for her, using the plastic dinosaurs that Chucho dug up from storage. Whatever the dinosaurs are up to it must be enticing because Dalia is giggling and gurgling, tiny hands grabbing in the empty air. The play comes to a close, the brachiosaurus and the triceratops bumping their heads together as if kissing, and Javier lowers them down for Dalia to take. You step forward, breaking your silence.
“What is it with kids and dinosaurs anyway?” Javier lifts his head, flashing a smile at you before turning his attention back to your daughter.
“See who it is?” He asks. Dalia babbles something like ‘baba’, one hand waving loosely in your direction. He readjusts her on his lap and gently lifts her arm to wave at you while talking in a high-pitched, pretend voice.
“Hola, mami!” You blow a kiss in response and Javier makes a show of catching it then pressing it to Dalia’s cheek.
“What do you mean ‘kids and dinosaurs’?” Javier asks, eyes never leaving his princess as she grabs at the collar of his shirt while her other hand is holding the brachiosaurus to her mouth, allowing her to suck at it with a gleeful look in her eyes. You stand next to him, dragging a hand across his hair.
“All kids have a dinosaur phase.”
“False.” Javier says with a shake of his head just as Dalia decides she’s tired of sitting in his lap and ventures out to explore the nursery on her own, first tentatively on foot then on her hands and knees as it becomes too difficult. You raise an eyebrow, giving a pointed look at the gazillion plastic dinosaurs stuffed in a box in the middle of the room. Javier follows your gaze. Huffs when he understands what it is that you’re not saying out loud.
“I had a dinosaur phase,” he says “My friends Simon and Benjamin did not. They thought I was, and I quote, ‘a real weirdo’.” You almost ‘aww’ at that little revelation. Instead you shake your head.
“Oh, they definitely had a dinosaur phase,” you insist “They just outgrew it before you did and didn’t want to admit ever having one because they were embarrassed.” Javier twists to look at you, missing the way Dalia hauls herself to her feet with the help of her crib.
“Embarrassed?” He echoes indignantly “Okay, dinosaurs are very cool. Did you know that the triceratops’s collar measured six feet and ten inches across?”
“Did you know that Microceratus is believed to have been one of the smallest dinosaurs at about two feet long?” You counter. Javier’s eyebrows disappear into his hairline, lips pulling into a small, silent ‘o’.
“That’s kind of hot,” he says, then clarifies “That you know it, I mean.” You crouch down a little, kissing his temple.
“I’m known for my smoking hot brain,” you state “And, again, every kid has a dinosaur phase.” That, and the fact that you’d flipped through the books that Chucho found along with the toys.
“I don’t believe you.” Javier says in a sing-songy voice while adjusting Dalia’s socks as she’s come to a halt, flat on her diapered butt, right in front of him. The words come out before you can stop them.
“Want to have another one so we can test that hypothesis?” Javier goes still for a second. Then he ever so slowly looks up at you.
“You said ‘no new baby until Dalia is at least two’,” his eyes narrow in an accusatory glance “Is this a test?”
“If we get started right now she’ll be almost two by the time the next one is done baking. I’m willing to cut a few months off of the time limit.” You notice the way his fingers twitch at that and you think you have a pretty good idea of what’s going through his mind right now. Javier had loved seeing you pregnant. The can’t-keep-his-hands-to-himself, only-reason-he-didn’t-fuck-your-brains-out-is-because-he’s-scared-of-hurting-you kind of love. His eyes, all wide and warm, are wandering across your figure.
“What’s gotten into you?” He asks softly. You shrug, sitting down next to him on the floor.
“Maybe I just really like a man who knows his dinosaurs. Or maybe it’s because I don’t want to put off expanding our family anymore.” That pulls a frown from him, like he’s suddenly convinced that there’s something big and horrible you haven’t told him. Hell, he’s probably running doomsday scenarios in his head right now. Truth be told you’ve been thinking about it for a while, ever since coming home and finding the two of them tuckered out and in the middle of a mutual nap right there on the floor of the nursery; Javi’s arm protectively wrapped around her even in his sleep and Dalia slowly drooling all over the red shirt you gave him for Christmas.
“We’re getting old, Javi,” you say, trying to be calming and maybe a little bit teasing as well “I woke up with back pain this morning and you, well you’re practically a dinosaur yourself.” That definitely snaps him out of it.
“You mean majestic and cool?” He questions “Loved by both young and old alike?” You ignore him.
“It’s about bedtime for this little lady,” you lean in to scoop her up from the floor “I’ll put her down and then you can prove me wrong, old man.” Javier is still going as you carry your daughter with you into the bathroom. He follows behind you, rattling off more possible descriptors.
“Inspiration for countless movies? Lethal yet alluring?” You turn your head, glancing at him over your shoulder.
“Old and dusty.” You says. Javier’s eyes look like they might pop out of their sockets. He leans in, one large hand planted firmly on the doorframe.
“You best enjoy sitting down while you still can.” There’s no stopping the grin that splits your face.
“Idle threats.” You reply as casually as you can. Javier’s jaw ticks. He begins to say something then cuts himself off and instead leans down to kiss Dalia on the forehead.
“Please,” he whispers to her “fall asleep quickly.”

Breathe. You have to breathe. God, when had this simple action become so hard?
The raid had been planned perfectly, every possible scenario covered but even the best laid plans can fall apart and Javier knew that better than anyone. He'd seen good men die, blamed himself for every one of their deaths when it was the result of his one of his raids. Timing is everything and it seemed like his was always off.
Someone was yelling. Who's screaming? Breathe. You have to breathe. When did your chest get so heavy? When did the cold set in?
Javier watched you round the corner, following your lead had always been easy. He wouldn't admit it out loud but he'd follow you anywhere, even if it meant you both didn't come back in the end. The man approaching from his six had gone unnoticed by him but not by you. You quickly pushed Javier out of the way, firing off a couple rounds to incapacitate the man. It works, he falls to the ground but he's quick on the trigger and gets his shots off as well. The timing, Javier curses his timing as he watches you crumple from the shots.
It's cold. We're in Colombia, it shouldn’t be this cold. Rest, I need to rest but someone keeps screaming.
"Get me medic! I need a fucking ambulance!' Javier's tone is urgent but shaky as he leans over you. "Miel, hey. I need you to stay awake. You have to stay awake. You're gonna be fine, cariña." His pleas come out soft, hand pressed to the wound on your side. "Stay awake."
You know his voice. Javi. It's getting colder now.
"Javi.." Your voice brings his attention to your face. You're pale, too pale and he knows it. "Jav... m'tired."
Javier swallows thickly, brushing the hair from your face. "I know. I know but you have to stay awake. Please stay awake." He can feel the way your breaths get more shallow, sees the way your eyes flutter between open and closed. The timing was off and he knows this should be him.
"Don't... Don't you go there." Your voice is weaker now, farther away from the usual warmth he knows. "I had to... to keep you safe... keep you alive." Your eyes flutter again and there's a pause between breaths.
Javier knows what is coming, the inevitable always does. He shifts to cradle your head in his lap, hand stained red with the blood that flows so freely. "I'm sorry, mi vida. I'm so sorry." He watches the slowing rise and fall of your chest, feels you start to let go. "I love you. I will always love."
Warm. It's warmer now, Jav. I love you too.
He feels you give in, sink into the welcoming arms of whatever waits on the other side. He's still cradling you when he hears the ambulance finally come. He doesn't break here, doesn't let his men see him that vulnerable, just curses the timing. Timing is everything and this time it had taken too much.
