A little while back, I realized I had never written a single Thai character.

But I am Thai. But I grew up in the heart of Bangkok.

I had made a conscious choice not to write myself. I was afraid that if I made a Thai oc, I would be called out for writing a self-insert. As if that was all there was to a character.

The solution:

Write a story where all the characters are Thai. Write a story that takes place in Fantasy Bangkok. And I felt I was finally telling a story only I could tell.

To be fair, protagonist Naree is still very much self indulgent:

She is Thai of Chinese descent, like I am.

Her favorite foods are just my favorite foods.

So this year my goal is to take more pictures of our dolls - AND to take less of Caspar. So, thanks to my hub’s suggestions, I decided to start off with Naree! :)

I haven’t really been feeling up to the hobby lately, as December was difficult and I didn’t have a lot of energy. The little bit I did have was spent on other projects. Since all of those are complete now, however, I really wanted to get back into the dolls...

...So my husband, being the kind-hearted boy he is, offered up help. He spent hours of his own time painting backgrounds for me to use in photos, then kept suggesting I go and enjoy myself. Finally, last night, I was able to sit down and do so!

I wanted to play with lighting and had a really good time doing so! My camera doesn’t have an f-stop option, but I was able to make do without it :D

I propose a trope: Reverse Superhero Landing

When a character with flight starts on the ground crouching in a three-point pose.

You get more visual oomph and style from a character pushing off from crouching, than if they simply jumped or took a running start.
