I saw Mandalorian & Grogu

I heard the lack of enthusiasm viewers had before I went in, so I prepared myself to view this like a TV special on the big screen, thinking that would help me enjoy it more with checked expectations. I saw it in my little town theatre for $8 in an almost empty room. There were a few laughs, but our small group was completely silent when the film ended. Perhaps some of them were asleep because this movie was so. damn. long. My eyes glazed over during several of the action scenes. My husband checked his watch four times. Too often scenes lingered far longer than they should. But, I will admit, however middle-aged suburban mom it sounds, I still fall for the cute Grogu shtick. He’s an incredibly impressive animatronic, making parts of this feel like a Muppet movie. And those were the moments I enjoyed the most. And the soundtrack was nice. Including the credits. The plot with Rotta would have been an awesome two-part tv special. But it really failed on multiple levels as a movie. I still like Din and Grogu. But there were more emotional moments in the show than anything we got out of Pedro here. Like maybe he knew this script was weak and it barely gave him anything to work with. It's becoming more and more clear Filoni and Favreau don't know what to do with him.

It honestly makes me sad! These characters used to be so beloved! The hype around them was awesome. But all that washed away as Mando lost its way. Something that could have been an incredibly exciting movie event just comes and goes with a whimper. To no fanfare at all. It's just sad. I have kind of fallen out of love with Star Wars in a lot of ways. And Mandalorian and Grogu did nothing to stop that atrophy.
