Personal Concept Diagram of Narrative Environments
A Hybrid of
Concentric Circular Diagram + Howard Ebenezer Three Magnets' Diagram
- Common concept of a people centric model
WHAT IS NARRATIVE ENVIRONMENTS ?
The Big Question
In its shallow sense, my basic understanding of Narrative first emerged from the reading of Aristotle Poetics, as a sequence of actions ‘that is complete, and whole; a whole is that which has a beginning, a middle, and an end; a well constructed plot, therefore must neither begin nor end at haphazard, but to conform to the principals.” The natural continuity and the unity of plot is particularly important in bringing about an impact upon an individual, when following through as cause and effect. Environment is then the sector where the above may occurs and take place in; the setting.
Within which, there are additional variable constituents. Three indispensable constituents include, Character, Setting and Event/Action (though there can be more than one event in a narrative). Event hereby, embraces the element of Time.
Based on the above notion, I drew out three main components to study about and will look to delve deeper in the coming future. It was the interest in the relativity of the Self, Space and Time, which supposedly to be interpretive of the Intercorporeal Approach.

Gaining Knowledge
Technically, Narrativity, itself is closely related as being a knowledge management and communication tool. It strives for a rich and intensive mental imagery or experiences of a specific concept. It triggers and stimulates the gain of an individual through the creation of knowledge and experiences.
Howard’s “Three Magnets” Diagram
My personal knowledge about the notion of Narrative Environments.
One of my personal admiration was Ebenezer Howard, a British Urban Planner, during the late 19th century, who invented and introduced the Garden City model for many suburbs, which he believed to be a belt of space, perfect blend of city and nature that would help to free off slums and squatters.
I was particularly drawn by his early comprehension of the people’s attitude towards environment, since during my previous study of Spatial Design. It was a study of relativity between people and two types of environment; ‘Town’ and ‘Country’ thereby developing a concrete concluding justification to his proposal of ‘Town-Country’ notion. It was a people-centric proposition. He then introduced the Letchworth Garden City in north London before the World War I.
Hence, I have attempted to integrate his widely renowned three magnets diagram scheme into the conventional concentric circles knowledge diagram. It is a composite of comprehension and analysis of the Narrative Environments.
Parallel to Howard’s scheme, Narrative Environments is also a people-centric proposition. Hence, instead of looking at Narrative Environments as the core of the knowledge diagram, I had decided to make a focus shift to the people; being users and visitors, as an invariable control, to study of the understanding of ‘Narrative’ and ‘Environments’, thereby justifying my comprehension of ‘Narrative Environments’
