Eyes
xxxxx || for @narutorarepairjune || Ship: KakaSaku
Summary: Eyes are the windows to the soul--even if Kakashi keeps one covered. Even in the heat of battle, their eyes meet, and they understand each other. ANBU AU, 21+. Warning for blood, violence, gore, etc.
Sakura worked hard to get where she was, and there was no way in hell someone was going to take that from her. She wasn’t going to die today, and she wasn’t going to let Kakashi die. Not on her watch. Not like this--not when they barely--
Still, she dodges and weaves, taking a sword to the side. She coughed, feeling the blood pass over her lips and she grabbed it, slowly pushing it out of her with her inhuman strength, healing the wound with chakra at the same time. It was a shame she was almost out of it--it was a shame that they’d been tracked down and it was a shame that they were losing this fight.
But still, they fought--their third--dove, was killed when the mission went sideways and the mist-nin they were sent to assassinate ended up assassinating her instead. Turnabout was fair play, right? Regardless-they had a mess to clean up.
She and Kakashi managed to kill the mist nin, but by that time, the mist ANBU themselves were called, and exhausted from their previous battle, they only had enough energy and resources to run. But, even then..
She still had a trump card to use. She still had a way to fight-- and as Kakashi’s hands formed the seals to his infamous raikiri, their eyes flickered to each other, and that instant, they understood each other. They would fight to the death. The release of the byakugou seal was enough to flood her with chakra, and she briefly wondered if this was how Naruto felt when getting chakra from the fox--and she dived in.
The chakra made her faster than a flicker of sunlight on a mirror, and her hands flew through signs as she danced around them, breathing deeply, concentrating. The earth sprung up around them for a second, giving them room to breathe against the onslaught of water ninjutsu.
“Wolf, are we fighting or retreating?” There was only a limited time for them to fight--if they were, they would have to win this battle fast--and Kakashi’s head lifted.
“Yes. Take care, Slug.” Her lips split into an almost feral grin, reacting in that moment--they’d been a duo for a long time--Kakashi could read her and knew what she was planning. “Don’t get in too much trouble, Wolf.”
Her fist slammed into the ground and it ruptured underneath them, creating a cavern underneath them, and a handsign formed spikes. Destabilize--debilitate--and then, destroy.
The mantra pounded through her head and she moved, bounding off each of the spikes, a new fervor to her movements, a new confidence, and Kakashi was much the same. The first mist ANBU fell down and Kakashi dived after them-- but Sakura was too slow to intercept the other mist ANBU at Kakashi’s back.
The short sword pierced through Kakashi as his Raikiri pierced the mist ANBU’s heart. Sakura’s fist impacted against the mist ANBU’s skill, instantly pulverizing it, and she flung the body away with a screech, “Kakashi--no!”
Their eyes met a second time, Sakura’s bright emerald against Kakashi’s red and charcoal grey. “It’ll be okay,” She reassured, applying the medical chakra to the wound--she could do this. Still, she could feel the tears prick at her eyes.
She didn’t allow them to fall. It was dire, she would have to admit--the man had lost a lot of blood--they’d fought off who was tailing them--it would be okay. It had to be okay.
“Sakura--wait..” For the third time their eyes met. “I’ve been waiting to tell you...” His chuckle is still slightly wet, and his breathing is still uneven. Sakura knows she can save him--there’s no other way! There’s no way in hell he’s dying!
“I love you.”
Tears drop from her face as she continues to knit his wounds back together, her concentration never wavering. “I love you too.”
Kakashi passed out sometime between her speaking and her finishing healing him, and she sighed as she picked him up. Did he really think that she would let him die that easily? Silly man... They still had a date to get to.
