Anaya was light on her feet, as that was what the day of love did to her. The Reaper Pirates stopped on an island for the day as everyone needed to get some supplies of their respective needs. Granted, Anaya didn’t really need anything–she just wanted a chance to explore and get some heart shaped things. Practically bouncing through the strip on the boardwalk, Anaya hummed to herself as she searched for anything Valentine’s Day related.
She pouted to herself as she couldn’t find anything pink, red, or heart-shaped. But with a glance to her left, there was love all around her. Couples of all ages and genders with their significant other, all lost in their own little worlds. Anaya looked towards two older women who were sitting on a bench together. An older Black woman and an older brown woman, the brown woman having her head entirely covered. Despite the modest dress, her clothing was adorned with jewels, compared to her partner’s simple pink shirt and pants.
Nadia floated to the forefront of her mind as she stared at the couple. She wondered if that’s what the two of them would look like when they’re older. A small giggle bubbled out of her at the thought of Nadia never losing her love for fashion even when she’s an old woman. Especially said stylish woman being able to kick her ass in a fight. She blinked hard at the thought and shook her head quickly.
Growing old with Nadia…what a strange thought. Valentine’s Day really did have a funny effect on her.
She continued her walk through the boardwalk, humming to herself at every turn. As a pirate, Anaya always wondered if there was ever a way for her to get that happy ending. Would she have that special love with a special person? All the milestones that came with romance, as if she had any experience that came with love. As she was lost in her own thoughts, she bumped into a figure to find that she bumped into Nadia.
Her breath was caught in her throat as she stared at Nadia for a minute. Nadia, equally startled, broke into a cute yet rare genuine smile as it sped up Anaya’s heart. That’s when she realized…it wasn’t just the effect of Valentine’s Day on her. A throat clear broke the two of them out of their weird little trance.
“Should we get back to the ship?” Naseem asked the both of them, a knowing glint sparkling in his brown eyes.
