some of my newer nastaliq work. theres some mistakes here but sill i think its a lot better than my older stuff.

"kyā karoge tum āxir qabr par merī āke

thoŗī der ro loge aur bhūl jāoge"

tr - "what else would you do if you do visit my grave,

but cry for a moment, then forget about it "

"pyās leke āyā thā dariyā vo bhar lāyā

nūr kī bāriś mẽ bhīgta sa tar āyā"

"sar uţhā ke mãi ne to kitnī xwāhiśẽ kī thī, kitte xwāb dekhe the kitnī kośiśẽ kī thī

jab tū rū ba rū āyā nazarẽ na milā pāyā, sar jhuka kar ik pal mẽ mãi ne kyā nahĩ pāyā"

tr- "he came with thirst, he found rivers,

went back swimming in the light of God

with my head raised i had wished for so much, dreamed for so kuch, tried for so much,

but when you showed yourself i could not meet your gaze, what did i not recieve but by bowing my head"

I wrote this in Nastaliq. It’s a calligraphy style specific to Farsi (Persian), created in the 14th century by Mir Ali Tabrizi.

It says:

صبحدم باش که چون غنچه دلی بگشایی

(Sobh dam bash ke chon ghoncheh deli bogshayi)

Be the dawn, like a rose that brings a smile to someone’s heart.

The peak of calligraphic comedy is how the Nastaliq variant of the Arabic alphabet has hundreds of elaborate ligatures for almost every two and three letters combination imaginable, with many variant shapes, and then lam-alif is just

Literally just lam + alif, no fancy trick, actually simpler to write than the Naskh version of lam-alif.

I love Nastaliq (a form of the Arabic alphabet used notably to write Urdu and sometimes Persian) but it's such a rabbit hole of a script

so so many ligatures and contextual variants

to say nothing of the keshide (long strokes)

I've been practicing for months but I'm still far from having the whole system down or the proportions right

I need a better calligraphy pen this ones so frayed and doesnt do thin strokes that well anymore. But finding a pen alligned for devanagari is so hard and expensive :(
