Hey Jen! a long time ago I commissioned something from you, and I loved it! It's been about two years(?) since then. I have spoken to you many times before and you've helped me grow as an artist. And now I have decided to open my Commissions as well. Although, I am having a hard time getting any publicity. Do you have any recommendations towards a newbie like me? I don't want to spam my followers with my art too much, but at the same time I've been told that's what I should be doing! Thanks!
Hi Kate! I’m glad to see you’re still pursuing art!
Hmm, I’m not sure how to go about getting more publicity. I do agree that the best way to get noticed is to keep drawing and posting art, but it will depend on the content of your art too. I did a lot of fanart when I was starting out (I still do!) and I think that really helped get my art out into the world because people are more likely to share content from their favourite fandoms/ships. I understand you specialize in DnD art, which involves a lot of original characters, so it may not get the same attention as characters that people are already familiar with.
I don’t know the best way to tackle this, but my suggestion would be to keep practicing and posting your original art like you do, while sprinkling some fandom art in the mix. That way, your art is more likely to be seen by new people who may become interested in commissioning you.
I hope any of that helps! Please keep in mind that I don’t know what I am talking about. Best of luck with commissions and your lovely art!!
