one thing that's been bothering me is, how did they kill the six souls, because we know they can reset... thoughts?

slams a book down on a table because ive thought about this a lot

what i figure is, all the humans had eventually given up. if we’re talking in game terms, it might be like quitting a game that you just can’t beat no matter how many times you reload or how many times you save scum, except the game is your life and it’s terrible

something to keep in mind: chara most likely did not narrate for any of the other souls. their no mercy ending dialogue heavily implies that they had been confused when frisk had awoken them, still reeling from the plan’s failure, but wouldn’t they have been a little more adjusted by the time frisk falls if they had already done this six times?

so, the kids didn’t have a narrator. they didn’t have anyone to give them hints about how to spare monsters, or where to go, or what to do, any of that. they were completely alone. that could’ve affected how easy it was for them to navigate the underground, and how quickly they’d become frustrated.

another thing is that true pacifist is 100% impossible for them. freeing monsterkind requires the deaths of those six children; it wasn’t an option for any of the six. if they wanted to leave the underground, they would need to kill asgore.

it’s possible none of them liked that option very much.

it’s also possible that they were simply killed SO many times that they gave up. the monsters frisk meets? they’re all very hopeful. they all talk about how they have six souls and they just need one more! they’re so close!

the monsters cyan would greet, though, would have been reeling from the loss of the royal children. they might be much more aggressive...enough for someone to eventually lose patience, maybe.

or maybe some of them gave up their souls willingly, hearing of the monsters’ plights and just. letting themself die. i can see kindness and justice potentially doing these things
