The small gallery was lit with a warm lighting that seemed to suggest a sense of comfort or home to offset the stark white walls; this was meant to compliment the current displayed artist’s paintings and sculptures. The sound of polite chatter filled the different rooms echoing along the corridors; wine and small snacks were being served while Natalia retreated to the corner to confirm the catering for tomorrow’s public opening along with going over some of the minor details.

I am going to need another drink…

Natalia was a petite woman with indecisive hazel eyes that could never settle on a permanent color wavering somewhere between greenish blue and long dark brown hair that made its way to her back in imperfect waves; she had a small round face with almond shaped eyes and button nose she unwittingly let crinkle in times of stress or deep concentration. She had a small mouth ornamented with thick pink lips which at the moment she pursed together as she hung up her phone.

Taking a deep breath and letting out a sigh she ran her fingers through her hair making a severe side part; she reached over and took her half empty glass bringing it to her lips and she walked back into the room where her boss and the other guests were conversing. Heels clicking against the marble floor she stopped upon seeing a man wander into the more isolated dimly lit room; taking a sip she smiled at him unable to clearly define his features.

“Good evening”

She had a small mouth decorated with thick pink lips which at the moment she pursed together as she listened to Mrs. Dobbs.

“Did they tell you what this place is?” the small stout woman with loud red hair and thick rimmed blue glasses said through her lipstick stained teeth; it was a red color and I guessed at the name of it something like “cherry bomb” or “streetwalker red”. Shaking my head I gave her a weak smile “No they just said it was a secretary position.” The woman nodded and scoffed mumbling something like “figures” before reaching down and grabbing a large binder.

“Here read this go home and decide if you want the job; we are bondsmen so we deal with paperwork, criminals, and bounty hunter and I can’t even tell you which one is more of a pain in the ass” I chuckled and nodded “honestly kid you look a little soft to be in here but that’s just my opinion; well see ya! Even if you are not interested in the job bring back that binder” tossing it my way she turned as if to dismiss me and bringing the binder to my chest I said my farewells and began to leave the hectic office believing she may be right. They needed help, secretarial help, but I wasn’t so sure I would be right for the position... just as she was exiting the building a man caught her eye.

Is he going to the bondsman?

She blushed and looked away for a moment not wanting to stare as he was in fact an attractive man but looking back up at him she smiled warmly.

“Hello”

She was about to take a step out into the rain when she noticed a man coming; smiling back at him she nodded “Hello; it’s coming down pretty hard huh? I wasn't prepared” chuckling lightly she pulled out a newspaper and held it over her head.

“Just go visit; they are family…for me okay?” Her father’s words echoed in her head as the sleek black car took her to a new unfamiliar place; she was told some story about a long lost relative on his side of the family moving to here and that, being apart from the family for so long, he would appreciate if she visited them on his behalf. Some story is exactly what it was and one that was as unbelievable as it was unlikely but, having her curiosity peaked, she decided to go anyway. After all for her father to make up such an elaborate lie he must have wanted her to visit the place desperately. “Curiosity killed the cat” she reminded herself jokingly as the car came to a stop in front of a large mansion.

She was taken aback by the size and elegance of their home she slowly made her way to the door; it was a beautiful and sunny day one that seemed to contrast the dark and sinister aura of the mansion. Rolling her luggage behind her she slowly reached out to knock but he hand never made contact with its fine wood for it ominously open before her; cautiously walking through she finally called out to make her presence known.

“Hello?”
