Ancient Egyptians regarded cats, who were associated with certain deities, as sacred. Not surprisingly, they were responsible for breeding them...by the millions! All of those kitties probably led quite a pampered life, huh? Errrm... perhaps in the afterlife. Unfortunately, their days in *this* plane of existence were quite limited. Scientists say that cats were bred on an industrial scale for the sole purpose of being mummified. Apparently, it was believed that burying humans with sacrificed cats would please the gods. Sadly, millions of kittens were offered up to deities simply because they could easily fit inside petite sarcophagi. OMG. Those poor baby kitties. 😿 Glorious golden feline painted by @jen_art *(spotted via art curator @nataliaklevaia)*. ... posted on Instagram - https://instagr.am/p/CJ7uqKqIV5c/
