On This Day in Baseball History May 2, 1954: At Sportsman’s Park, St. Louis during a doubleheader, Stan “The Man” Musial makes history. Musial would hit five homers in total during both games with a total of six hits (single) with two walks for nine RBI and 21 total bases against the New York Giants. Man this is a fantasy baseball dream!!!
In the end the Cardinals and Giants would split the twin bill.
It would be 18 years before Nate Colbert of the San Diego Padres on August 1, 1972 equaled Musial’s record of five homers in a doubleheader. Colbert would have one extra RBI.
