This is… entirely fucking accurate.
FACTS!!!!
Apparently with the strikeout in today's game, Paul Gokdschmidt becomes the 9th hitter to reach 2,000 Ks. Who are the other 8 players?
That's quite the list there. Aside from Adam Dunn, those are all Hall of Famers or Hall of Fame caliber players.
Man, Ryan Weathers and Drew Rasmussen are dealing in this game. Neither offense could get anything going past a runner on first. If I was the manager on either team, I'd keep them both in for as long as possible. Why have the bullpen blow it.
Today's "Name That Yankee" is according to the announcers a "6" in difficulty. I'll be honest, I have no idea who it is. Though I think it might be a catcher whose name escapes me at the moment.
Here is the answer:
I vaguely remembered that the player was a catcher. Though I can't say that I knew it was Ben Rortvedt.
Today's "Name that Yankee" trivia question is a gimme. The answer is the birthday boy himself Tommy John.
People today know him for the monumental arm surgery that was first performed on him (by Dr. Frank Jobe on September 24, 1974) and bears his name. But many don't know that John was quite the pitcher. He had a total 519 decision (288 - 231) with an amazing 3.34 ERA.
Its surprising that John isn't in the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
I had no idea who the answer to the name that Yankee trivia question was. Interesting to see who the first player to play for both the Yankees and Mets was.
The bonus comes in as Throneberry was traded for Roger Maris, who was very important to the Yankees winning back-to-back A.L. MVPs in 1960 and 1961 and was part of five A.L. oennant winning teams and two World Series champions in 1961 and 1962.
Volpe is doing his best to make the decision at short hard for Manager Aaron Boone. So far In this series against the Mets, Volpe has 5 walks, 2 hits with 2 RBI and only 3 strikeouts. Good to see Volpe shaking off the rust.
Things keep going from bad to worse for the New York Mets. Not only did they lose to their crosstown rivals, the New York Yankees, by a 5-2
Tough loss for the Mets.
Theeeeee Yankees Win!!!! Good night folks.
Rice goes deep...Bednar sits down.
BTW, when did the Mets call up Craig Kimbrel and his 5th best 440 career saves. This is 10 teams in 17-seasons for Kimbrel. I'll give him this much, he's finding ways to stay in the majors.
Volpe is showing a good eye tonight with three walks.
Love that the ump in this game used the Mets' government name of the "Metropolitans" when announcing the result of the challenge at 1st.
Though Schlittler is beating up on the Mets, he's taking a beating on the come back hits and the play he made to throw the runner out at first. I think he's done after the 7th inning.
It seems to me that Bo Bichette seems somewhat lost as a member of the Mets. Though he is averaging $42-million a year in this 3-year deal with the Mets,, I wouldn't be surprised to see him opt-out of this deal if his season continues as it has been. Time will tell.
Giants manager Tony Vitello backed fans after another ugly loss, revealing how quickly frustration is growing in San Francisco.
And speaking about Giants manager Tony Vitiello. Losing the home fans at Oracle Park doesn't bode well for him.
Posey has shown that he's not afraid to make major moves since taking over in September 2024. But the results haven't followed yet.
Is it just me or do the Gigantes look like they need to clean house. Gone are the days of experienced back of the house people in the front office and managerial/coaching positions.
I know Oracle Park can be hard for players to knock it out of the park, but as the article states, they are last in home runs and their big three of Rafael Devers, Willy Adames and Matt Chapman are on pace to hit 32 homers. Not individually. Combined. And the team ranks last in the league in walks as well.
I know that time will tell but I'm not sure how much time rookie manager Vitiello will have to right the ship. Even more concerning is how much time Giants legend Buster Posey will have at the helm before he is relieved of his duties. That would be a dark day at the city by the bay.
