On This Day in History June 2, 1935: Famed slugger Babe Ruth announces his retirement from Professional Baseball.
Ruth was traded to the Boston Braves with promises of future managerial opportunities and profit sharing from gate receipts. In reality the promises were hollow which were made worse by his conflicts with management and by his poor performance both on the field and at bat. Ruth would finish his last season with a .181 batting average with 6 homers and 12 RBI in 72 at-bats.

Crazy how the Mets just disregarded the effect Pete Alonso had on their franchise throughout the years. He wasn't just a home run machine.
Apparently with the strikeout in today's game, Paul Gokdschmidt becomes the 9th hitter to reach 2,000 Ks. Who are the other 8 players?
That's quite the list there. Aside from Adam Dunn, those are all Hall of Famers or Hall of Fame caliber players.
If ever there was a picture that encapsulated who Pete Rose was on the field, its this one. Charlie Hustle!!! One of my favorites growing up!!!
Rest in Peace Hit King. Maybe now you'll get reinstated and have your right place among the immortals at Cooperstown.
One of the greatest managers of all time has moved on to the big ballpark in the sky. Rest in Peace Bobby Cox.

This is how I’m watching the tonight’s Baseball games. And it’s only March 11th!!!!
Sandy Koufax and Don Drysdale began their double holdout during Spring Training on this day in Los Angeles Dodgers history.
I reference Sandy Koufax and Don Drysdale in my last Immaculate Grid post. Both took a stand that they were being underpaid by the owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers Peter O'Malley and decided to hold out for a better contract before the 1966 season. It is an case of two superstars taking a stand for a better contract against management together. Its an interesting read.
