Image & caption reposted from @artby_nateaustin White tears are sometimes a weapon used against people of color. It is the presumption of innocence in need of saving with an aggressive antagonist. White tears have been an act of aggression because of the awareness of how society views and instinctively responds.

In contrast the feelings of black men and women are often overlooked. We’re expected to be strong but not “aggressive”, outspoken but not too “loud” and ready to grow up from birth.

Remarkably and without fail, we remain a dynamic people. Educated and unbothered by these weaponized tears, we continue to bloom.

I’ve found so much beauty in growth lately. Growth can be painful and uncomfortable but ultimately unavoidable. How then, can we make the most of it? By standing up and pressing through, knowing that there is power and beauty in the end result.

Children often are the greatest models for how we should approach growth. They are eager and excited for the next step in life. When you’re looking for inspiration look to them. Then, stand up straight.
