Yesterday, the Dallas Morning News endorsed Nathan Hecht for anothersix years on an already all-Republican court. When compared to Michele Petty thought, Hecht’s editorial win just does not seem to add up.
"Justice Hecht’s ethics charges… are currently pending in Travis County. He has an unresolved $29,000.00 ethics fine levied by the Texas Ethics Commission for a substantial illegal campaign contribution and for the failure to report that illegal contribution. He appealed it in January of 2009.
His friend Attorney General Gregg Abbott is letting Justice Hecht float on the fine money and has agreed to shuffle the case to a retired Republican judge, but Justice Hecht has not escaped having to ultimately pay that fine and that case has not been dismissed in Hecht’s favor.
Did Justice Hecht misrepresent the status of his ethics violations to the Dallas Morning News?”
I want a Supreme Court Justice who can bring something different to the table. Adding a Democrat on a currently all-GOP Republican court can make a positive difference. If Petty will work as hard as she campaigns, the court will be gaining a justice who will outwork any judge I know. She has a heart for the little person and is well-respected in the legal community. Thus, I object to DMN’s endorsement.
