It was something that Cathy would not expect for a million years, and yet it was happening right in front of her. She always thought of herself to be incapable of love or affection. Nobody in their right mind would want to date the girl with her heart on her sleeve, especially with the way she would get extremely emotional about even the little things. But something must have changed, because she was now in a relationship with someone. And to think that someone would take a chance with her, open his heart to hers and go on such an amazing adventure that she had never gone on before was an exciting moment. That someone was Nathaniel Randell.
It seemed to have started off simple enough. There was some flirting here and there, maybe a little teasing between the two of them. She knew that she had feelings for him for a while now, but she never acted on them. Especially with not the way her parents were. She came from a very conservative South Korean family, and that meant that she was not to waste time pawing over a boy's attention. The most important thing for her to do was get into college, and after that, get into the work force with an important career that will make her money and keep her family stable. She wasn't sure what exactly she wanted to do with her life, but she knew that she needed to figure it out eventually, or risk the wrath of her parents. She couldn't even imagine telling them about Nate, especially since he would be considered a distraction.
They had only been in school for a month and already she was starting to have feelings for him. It was just unheard of in her family to date at an early age. It was considered early for her family because education was the top priority in life, not love. Her parents wouldn't understand, but maybe her brothers would. She remembered how they would sneak girlfriends over when their parents were away on trips or meetings, and how happy they seemed to be in the arms of their girl. That's all she wanted to experience, but she was too afraid to disobey her parents so blatantly like that. "But if I don't take this chance, it may never happen again." It was the thought that ran through her mind the entire time she thought about Nate, and what it meant to actually be his girlfriend.
Curiosity and the chance to experience love got the best of her, and whether her parents liked it or not, she would be with Nate, and learn for herself what it meant to love someone, and have them love her in return. She sat on her bed, phone in her hand with his number ready to dial. She had been debating on whether or not to call him, ask him out on a date rather than waiting for him to make the first move. Would it be too forward of her to call him first? Were they even at that point in their newly formed relationship for her to call him whenever she pleased? Would he be upset with her for bothering him without any warning?
The thoughts ran through her head to the point that doubt clouded her mind. It was too late though, and she eventually hit the call button, waiting for him to answer.
