It’s #NationalTechnologyDay. January 6 is a day to recognize past achievements in technology and look forward to the future. Railroads were among the first to adopt the electronic telegraph and telephone, both for dispatching trains and handling business messages. Railroads were also among the leaders in adopting punch card and other advanced techniques of data processing. In January 1957—sixty-one years ago—the Southern Railway celebrated the arrival of its new IBM computer system on the cover of Ties magazine. Today, Norfolk Southern uses technology to improve scheduling, decision-making, and performance measurement. By continually adopting technology, NS is improving overall efficiency for our customers’ shipments. #technology #norfolksouthern #team #history
