okay, so i want to purchase this shirt, but i was wondering if any Native Americans could weigh in on if this is okay? i’m not of Native blood or heritage, but i do live in the usa and i do think what europeans did is disgusting and horrible. would it be okay for me to wear this shirt, or would it be misleading in terms of my cultural identity?

i really don’t wanna accidentally do smth offensive (especially not to the Native peoples who have already suffered so much for no reason) so any Native American opinions are very valued <333

It’s not fandom discourse tho - unless my infant novel is a fandom. ;-)

I’m a published author - one book, years ago.  And I recently started outlining and plotting a new one book.  It’s Sci-Fi set in the not too distant future and I really want to make the protag a Native American woman.  Apache, namely Chiricahua.

I’ve been doing a lot of research since I am NOT Native American but I will need to project some things as it is set hundreds of years in the future.

I know a lot of people feel one should NOT write a protag as an ethnicity if you’re not that ethnicity.  BUT there are SO FEW Native American characters in Sci-Fi that I really want to do this and make it authentic as possible.  However, if the consensus is, that I’m over-reaching, I could always invent a background for her seeing as it IS Sci-Fi .

Feel free to weigh in and don’t hold back.  I’ve got a skin as thick as an elephant’s hide.
