I been trying to figure out how to articulate all of my ideas and thoughts in pictures or drawing except for the fact my art is highkey trash lol. While being out in Vegas visiting grams, she received several cards from my uncle down the road back home in Colorado. Completely forgot how raw he is at drawing. Growing up, he used to always send dope cards, necklaces, dream catchers and all kinds of other shit. Truly blessed with a talent to draw and create but was lost during his youth.. eventually leading to 3 strikes the third being suspect and still under appeal. But it sucks.. he’s spent more life incarcerated than in the free world, enjoying the gift of life. I haven’t spoken to him quite yet, but I will soon and plan to visit. It wasn’t long ago when I was in his shoes and I don’t wish the incarcerated life on anyone. Especially if you’ve been there long enough to where you start to become institutionalized. Who you were before you went in ceases to exist and you become more of a savage than you ever thought was possible, where it’s truly survival of the fittest in a place where most of the population have nothing to lose. Misplaced anger and hatred over poor decision making in the past. The common denominator I felt, with most of these dudes was that they had no guidance at home. No nurturing to help cultivate them into the individuals we all have potential to be. In addition to that, those who were truly mentally ill, or throwed off. Like something just wasn’t quite there. That’s not to say, there are people in there who unequivocally broke the law and deserve to be where they are, make no mistake. But they are human too, and despite how hardened and disconnected you become to love and the real world, it’s still nice to know people out there still care about you. When the world is steady progressing and changing, you’ve stayed the same and watched from the sideline. I’m excited to see what kind of ideas we’re able to develop and curate. Stay tuned…
