One of our Halloween pumpkins from last year stayed fresh/didn’t rot for several months. When it finally did, we put it out in the yard for the critters to take care of, and they did exactly that over the course of a few days. As a result, we have about 8 pumpkin plants all across our yard. The bees have been going ham all of the flowers lately, so I grabbed my camera and snapped a few pics of their indecency. The Sighting

Something about seeing a creature in the woods,

a secret life that’s little understood,

a distant sound mistaken for the breeze,

a shadow, silent, moving through the trees

and then a glimpse of faded brown, or grey,

its presence seems to take your breath away,

a thrill, some fear, an urge to let it be—
