The Naughtyfish travel story

Naughtyfish are the talented designers behind our 'Conquer the world' campaign. Husband and wife team Paul Garbett and Danielle de Andrade share their travel tips.

What do you pack in your suitcase?  Paul: I'll always pack a camera, drawing pad and fountain pens (which often explode and leak all over the place because of the pressure in the plane) I can't seem to learn. Danielle: As little as possible – you've got to leave space for new clothing purchases!

What do you collect on your travels?  Paul: I love collecting photographs, books and various pieces of ephemera which remind me of what I liked about the place. Drawing also seems to happen as I get more relaxed. Danielle: I love collecting fabric unique to the destination I've travelled to and then making it into something when I get home.

What’s your favourite thing to do at airports? Paul: Leave. Danielle: Trying on all the different perfumes although you need to be careful because if you don't like the smell of something, it's with you for your entire flight!

Best travel tips(s) or advice? Paul: Have an open mind and embrace the new. Don't take fountain pens on the plane – they leak. Danielle: When travelling with young children, always pack a spare pair of clothing for them and you. After a projectile vomit, 5 minutes into a 16 hour flight, it’s nice to know you can change!

Best or worst destination you ever travelled to? Paul: The best would have to be a place called Ladakh in the Indian Himalaya. I loved Tokyo just as much for completely different reasons. Danielle: Tokyo! A designers dream, such an incredibly interesting and inspiring city.

Dream destination or place you’d like to visit next? Paul: New York or Barcelona. Danielle: Dream destination would be New York. The place I'd like to visit next would be the MONA in Tasmania.
