I think there’s a misconception about what “Navy tattoos” are. When you search up Navy tattoos, you get pictures of anchors and skulls, pinup girls, dog tags, cannons, compasses, and ships. What people don’t think of as “Navy tattoos” are the tattoos you get as a junior sailor that tell your story. To me, Navy tattoos are the dumb things you get tattooed on you as a junior sailor like propellers to help you swim faster or the emblem of your boot camp ship to remember what it was like to go through Hell and back and survive. They’re half thought through and so random, they can only be described as Navy. The stereotypical Navy tattoos are still Navy tattoos as well, but the tattoos that tell the story of the person and are half thought through. Those are Navy tattoos to me. Not to say that I regret my tattoos, not at all, but as I struggled to think of my “Navy tattoo,” I realized I had some already.
