Cecil(main antagonist) sends one of his cult members to disturb a herd of sacred cows belonging to Emmet(a god), those cows go on a rampage and eventually trample over Nazri(another god)’s sacred field, Nazri gets really mad about this and kills the cows, Emmet banishes Nazri and beats the shit out of him, Nazri goes into hiding and revives a sleeping god Arterio to do his bidding, Emmet then goes to revive Arterio’s twin Veinos to do HIS bidding to keep a check on Nazri, Arterio under the control of Nazri hatches an elaborate scheme to collect wild animals and experiment on them to create mutated soldiers to fight against Emmet because Gods Are Really Petty(except these experiments fail and many animals die in the process), Veinos has his own thing going on raising completely normal deer, Nazri and Emmet are like, not present in this at all until Emmet decides to actually do something so first he posesses Veinos to make one of his deer beefed up. Clarisse(the deer) then goes off to Arterio’s place, meanwhile Emmet becomes a spirit(??????), goes to Arterio’s place, infuses himself into one of the potions, Arterio then injects the potion into OUR FUCKING PROTAGONIST(Malloy) which causes a successful mutation and Emmet to sprout out of Malloy’s head as a talking mini rabbit skeleton. MEANWHILE in some vague forest Nazri is Also posessing a chainsaw-wielding bear(because this man has mind control powers. whoopee.) to go find the protagonist and stop him from stopping Nazri. This is the goddamn backstory. Then the three protags(Malloy, Clarisse, Sawkun) meet up with Veinos and journey their way through the forests and mountains and shit and run into several gods and others ALSO under Nazri’s possession. The actual “quest” part of the story is literally just “wow this god’s kind of insane, guess we gotta beat the shit outta them, I wonder what the story is” and Emmet is the vague and extremely unhelpful plot guide that drops the whole backstory to Malloy like 3/4 of the way through. At some point in time Nazri gets mad that the gods he’s posessing are getting beaten up so he makes Arterio grow Really Fucking Big to destroy shit, and Veinos is like “oh shit that’s my brother wtf” and after Malloy gets the full story he just. gets up and yells at Nazri for all the shitty things he’s pulled and basically guilts Nazri into giving up and apologizing. And also emmet goes and reveals his true form and goes “hahaaa I was The Guy the entire time!” And that’s how the (first chapter) of the story ends.
