today at work we had a meeting via-zoom that was important enough to have a program and list of participants. this program and list had been ready and prepared for an entire week. then, five minutes before the meeting proper, they changed it.
because they had to add "miss" to my name.
turns out, the hosts of the meeting have been scratching their heads for ages because both my nickname (sam) and my full name are gender non-conforming. they couldn't figure out if i was a boy or a girl.
of course i couldn't just out myself and say that i was neither, and that their initial guess (which was literally just "????") was correct, so i just let them call me "miss" instead. whatever. i don't really mind being mistaken for a woman.
what i DID mind was how they changed my name when they announced it during role call. they just added an "-a" to the end in order to make it sound more feminine? like? it's not even a made up fucking name it is literally my legal name? and they just butchered it because they were uncomfortable calling me something non-gender conforming?
i felt like i was dead-named for some reason? i got so offended i honestly was fuming all the way through lunch, i was so annoyed!
