I picked my dad's brain about the difference in procedures at different precincts. Apparently the role of "Desk Sergeant" was switched out to "street Sergeant" on the west coast {ie: Portland, OR} although some of the LAPD still utilize the role of Desk Sergeant from time to time. The precincts in the west coast believe it to be an unnecessary position. Here the cops pick their own cars and it is their responsibility to make sure that the cars are detailed out and clean from time to time. If there is throw up in the back seat, it is your responsibility to report it so the cleaning crew can come in and clean it out and sanitize; though this admittedly takes some time and thus leads to cars not smelling so lovely. And when they are cleaned out they are left with the unsavory mix of cleaning chemicals, there is no lemon zest my friends. Furthermore, in this lateset episode where Erin so talented-ly managed to talk Dean Masters down for two seconds, this is a technique used precisely to keep the target talking. If they are talking they're not shooting. I love watching this show with my father because where I thought I knew and understood how police work goes, I do, but I also do not and he can set me straight with his 25 some years of experience. This is exciting. I cannot wait to pick my father's brain even further and dive in deep. This will certainly help me develop this page and character further. XOXO.
