The National Digital Arts Awards: Redefine, Recreate, Revolutionize launches in March 1, 2014 and will once again take the local digital art scene for a wild ride.
To further stoke everyone's competitive fire, Here is one of the Judges for the upcoming National Digital Arts Awards: Redefine, Recreate, Revolutionize.
First is Ali Silao. Creative Director from TBWA\Santiago Mangada Puno, the five-time winner of the prestigious Agency of The Year award. He has handled 360-degree campaigns, design, and digital work for major brands such as Bench, Champion, and KFC, as well as charitable institutions like The Eyebank of the Philippines, Manikako, and The Red Whistle. He has won metals in local and international advertising award shows such as Spikes Asia, Clio Awards, Adfest, Busan Ad Stars, and Digital Asia Awards, and mentions in The One Show Design Awards, D&AD Awards, New York Festivals, and Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity.
Ali also won the Philippines’ first Gold in the Young Spikes Competition in 2010, and in 2013, beat major brands like Google and Microsoft to win the country's first Webby Award for a short film sponsored by Energizer called "Gift of Life."
Next is Dan Matutina. Designer and illustrator based in the Philippines.He is the co-founder of Plus63 Design Co., a design studio that creates brand identities, strategize communications, design and illustrate for print & web.Dan Matutina was also awarded by the Art Directors Club Young Guns Award last year.
Some of his clients include WIRED, Jamie Oliver Magazine, Rogue, Walker Books, ESPN, IDW Publishing (Cobra Files), Havaianas, Paypal, Mediatemple, Google, Frog Design, Natural Resources Defense Council, Droga5 (for ID Gum), Giant Ant, Heineken, Nike & Coca-Cola.
Third judge is renowned photographer Jay Tablante. Jay Tablante is a photographer that worked with famous brands here in the Philippines as well as international franchises. He also does photoshoots with celebrities and for major magazines.
Tablante is also a brand ambassador for Canon, Phottix Lighting, Benro Tripods, and has staged a one-man exhibit in The Crucible Gallery. He has also been a staple figure in local comic and pop-culture conventions.
Fourth Judge is the CEO and Founder of Gigzilla JP Cuison, and is also the Associate Creative Director of Publicis Jimenezbasic.Cuison is a Fine Arts graduate of the University of the Philippines and managed to work with reputable known brands like Puma, Bench and Artworks among many others. He also designed concert posters for international and local bands like Parokya ni Edgar, Razorback, and Asking Alexandria.
Cuison also designed the movie poster of the critically acclaimed "Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank".Cuison also has a soft-spot for pop culture. This shows in his artworks that were showcased in his first solo exhibit entitled "GIGZILLA' where some of his artworks were auctioned to prominent celebrities and icons.JP Cuison is also part of the group that produces the underground comic sensation "PUNNX COMIX.
Fifth Judge is one of Manila’s well-known After Effects Artist Jobert Monteras, with over 10 years of combined experience in the film, TV, video and digital media industry from the late 90's up to the present day. He and his team was the very first to create a stereoscopic TVC in Manila for Acer Italy and has worked with the top post-production houses in the country. Monteras is also an accomplished smoke/flame artist who has created a series of works from television commercials to visual effects compositing, many of which were premiered on television.
Monteras also knows many facets of the music industry, bringing over a decade of entertainment business experience as a radio personality, as he believes sound and music is of as much essence as is the visual narrative. He is also an Adobe Demo Artist and does demonstrations both here and abroad. Monteras is currently the only Adobe Certified Expert and Certified Instructor Premiere Pro in the Philippines.
Today, he is a master of many skills including online editor, compositor, motion graphic artist, and adjunct lecturer teaching at the college and university close to home. With his rich experience in VFX and vast knowledge on the various aspects of a VFX pipeline, he brings a wealth of real world problem-solving experience that demonstrates conceptual, aesthetic and technical mastery for the benefit of his students and clients that led him to a training career at Media ASYLUM Learning Center Southeast Asia’s first DVA Adobe Authorized Training Center. Whatever the future of VFX is, you can pretty much bet that he’ll be in the middle of it.
Heinritzh Sales is the Art Director of TeamManila, a multi-discpilinary graphic design studio that has its own retail brands, namely TeamManila Lifestyle and DailyGrind Clothing.
Sales is a Engineering graduate that harnessed his artistic skills to make a name for himself in the design industry. He's first designing stint is with known local brand Folded and Hung. He then went on to designs and collaborations with different bands such as Eraserheads, Slapshock, Taking Back Sunday, and Fleetwood Mac to name a few.
Sales also did design works for known brands like Globe Tattoo, Greenwhich, Jollibee, Uniliver Food Solutions, Tower of Doom Records, and with Manila BUlletin among many others.
Heinritzh Sales also became a jury for Adobo Design Awards 2013 and Philippine Graphic Expo Shirt Design Contest 2013.
David Yu is the CEO of Mothership Inc, a visual effects company that handled all visual effects design for blockbuster movies like ‘OTJ’, ‘Boy Golden’, and’ Tiktik, The Aswang Chronicles’, the last netting him a Golden Screen Awards for Best Visual Effects. Before founding his own business, Yu worked as a Visual Effects supervisor for various post-production and visual effects companies like PostManila and Roadrunner Network Inc.
Aside from being a multi-awarded graphic artist, David Yu is also a freelance DJ and is also an electronic musician
Patrick Cabral is a Multi-disciplinary Designer and Artist and is also a well-versed app developer.
Cabral was part of the team that started the Forty Days of Dating social experiment, a concept that will now have its own film and book adaptation. His artwork depicting a famous quote also went viral, arousing the interest of Tattly.com, a foreign tattoo brand. Cabral is also the only Filipino artist collaborating with Tattly.
Recently, Patrick Cabral released his own mobile app game called "Pugo".
CJ de Silva - Ong is the Senior Art Director of TBWA-Santiago Mangada Puno. She worked with known brands like Bench, Ayala Malls, Oishi, Haegen Dazs, the Cinemanila Film Festival, Del Monte Phillipines, and Bistro Group of Restaurant among many others.
Aside from sporting a hefty amount of succesful corporate projects, de Silva - Ong proved to be an award magnet. She's received awards for her Cinemanila works namely "Sementeryo".
She was also part of the team that conceptualized the "Gift of Life", a project with Manikako.
And last but not the least Rob Cham is a freelance illustrator, designer, and comic artist who's done illustration works for notable publications and magazines like Rouge, Smile, Esquire, the Philippine Star.
He has also worked with brands like McDonald's and Adidas.
Cham has also worked with various government agencies, namely the Department of Social Welfare and Development as well as the Department of Foreign Affairs.
Cham was a former part of Create.ph and currently works on comics-related projects for Visprint and other independent publishing houses.
