@ndelphinus
I get what he was trying to go for in HoH, but it just did not work because every instance except for, like, two of his attempted “Percy never thinks of others” was easily countered by “I really don’t care about the viewpoint of the monsters that attacked children first and tried to kill them” (I have similar issues with A Series of Unfortunate Events.) And to then follow it up with BoO where we not only didn’t get any Percy or Annabeth POV (which is almost mandatory after putting your characters through literal hell. You can’t just not show the fallout), but got the POV of others that just seemed to be trying to hammer that inconsistent point home even more.
And I know you and I could complain about Nico’s treatment until the cows come home. You literally wrote in multiple characters’ POV that they were uncomfortable around him Rick. That was THEIR POV, not his. You can’t just suddenly change your mind and claim it was all in his head.
I still enjoy HoO more overall than PJO because I loved the characters and lack of middle school bullshit that was so prevalent in PJO, but it’s just so disappointing how badly he failed to stick the landing.
@ndelphinus That was part of what I was referring to in my tags, he’s so bad at it. Like how Nico somehow goes from 12 to 14 in four months, which is part of why the fandom views him as a potential love interest for Percy. “Only two year difference! Let’s ignore that part where he was obviously a small child when Percy was halfway through teendom!”
And that would make a bit more sense were it not for the fact that there are multiple flashbacks in that exact book to when they were runaways, highlighting the huge age difference. Thalia says, like, a chapter and a half before said creepy exchange “Annabeth was so little” about that time.
Then again, this is the same relationship where we had Luke literally telling a monster to eat Annabeth to get at Percy and then three books later what saved the world is Luke coming to his senses long enough to kill himself after hurting Annabeth. You didn’t seem to care three years ago, when she more closely resembled that child you made a promise to. Wtf? (I could at least get it if, like in TC, he’d shown some hesitation or something, but he didn’t. Just flat-out “Alright, I won and you’re going to die, but I want to see you suffer first.” There wasn’t even a purpose to it except solely to see Percy suffer because he thought he had won.)
I have a lot of issues with the handling of Luke if you can’t tell.

I am jealous because I can't even log into Pokémon at the moment thanks to the Great Firewall
That’s crazy, I can’t imagine why China would ban something as innocuous as Pokemon.

…The fuck were you doing with that razor?
If I shave with the grain it does nothing for the hair on my neck, so I was shaving against and pressing hard because otherwise there’d still be stubble when I was done (unless the blade was brand new). Today I tried going sideways and also was in the shower instead of at the sink, and it came out amazing, but I’m not sure for which reason.
