Had the opportunity this evening to share in the wisdom and learn from the lived experiences of some very powerful speakers and knowledge keepers, while participating in a virtual beading circle. We have done, through colonialism and cultural genocide, so much harm; and there is so much fucking work to do.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation honours the lost Indigenous children, residential school survivors, and all the lives and communities affected by the Indian residential school system in Canada.

Manitoba schools commemorated Orange Shirt Day yesterday and are closed today, freeing students and staff to participate in National Day of Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day activities in their communities.

Today the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network offers a full day of programming to raise awareness about the significance and meaning of the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation. APTN is the World's First National Indigenous Broadcaster.

We're observing a new federal holiday in Canada: Today is the inaugural National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

It's a day to learn about the Indigenous Peoples of this place we settlers call Canada, how we have failed them - and how we continue to do so, and how we can act now, and do better in the future.

A few small gestures we're doing in our family today:

wearing orange

listening to the stories of Indigenous people who went through the horrors of the residential school system. It's hard for us to hear them, but it's the very least we can do in order to understand.

appreciating the art and culture that the First Nations / Innu / Inuit / Indigenous Peoples have shared with our own culture

Monetarily supporting Indigenous causes
