The blonde looked at the plated that was now in front of her and thought about his words. It was no secret that Misa faced a lot of difficulties being in the limelight. The magazines and interviews only focused on the positives and showed only one side of her. Some days she was beyond exhausted from upteenth dance practices. Always striving for perfection pushing herself to the limit.

Picking up a fork and knife, she began cutting the circle and plopped a piece in her mouth. She closed her eyes savoring the taste of the cake and its sweetness. Her eyes looked up at Near as she began cutting more of the food. “I’m eating right now so you don’t have to worry. I’ll keep in mind what you said though.” Eating pancakes in God knows how long was absolutely heavenly.

Ryuk found humans intensely interesting.  And THIS particular human had made a fascinating decision, something that Ryuk found quite intriguing.  

His legs crossed, it appeared that he was sitting upside-down in the middle of the air, head tilted at the white-haired human that seemed to be ignoring him, at the moment.  He KNEW that Near could see him, so why he wasn't paying attention to him baffled the Shinigami; he was very entertaining, after all.

"You know, I'm surprised you KEPT that thing," Ryuk commented, moving from his upside-down position to perch near the Death Note on the desk.  "I would have thought after the whole Kira fiasco, that would be the LAST thing you'd want."  Maybe if he kept talking to him, he'd pay attention to him, something, ANYTHING to keep him from being so BORED.

The Espurr is snapped out of its trance, blinking for the first time in hours. Its sure its current companion is new, and yet it feels none of that familiar desire to run away and hide in the undergrowth. Not while it’s still getting attention, at least.

Slowly, carefully, it taps a single paw against the stranger. It doesn’t have the dexterity needed to offer a real pet, but it hopes its gentle pats will be appreciated all the same.

“Do you mind if I stay with you for a bit? Things haven’t been going so well.”

Matt blinks.

Now this is unusual. He opens the door wider to invite Near in, completely unashamed by the absolute disaster state that his apartment is in.

"That sounds like an understatement if I'm the best bet you've got goin' for yourself," he responds while closing the door after Near.
