She took her time before responding, slowly turning her head to finally regard him with a polite smile. The pleasant, polite mask of navigating public spaces.

"Oh no," She corrected. "Just taking things in, is all. Been a while since I've been back..."

She wasn't lying. She generally didn't visit the capital unless she had good reasons. Or on request. Which reason brought her here today? That was no business but hers. For now.

"So you do assist everyone, or is this a special case?"

Her words marked with a slight arch of the brow, rising over the frames of her smoked lenses.

Rook needed information. With the Shadow Dragons getting royally fucked by the archdemon and then the Venatori, the Threads (with their more dubious methods of handling shit) were increasingly who he had to turn to for information. It wasn't that Rook had anything against the Threads, he just liked Dorian having known him back in the day, and had made a vague attempt to not get caught up in as much sketchy shit over the last five years. Clearly, he was failing miserably at that.

Information. Right.

It didn't take long for Elek to show at their meeting place. "Ya know, if you're still interested in that country house I have for sale in Antiva, it's still up for grabs." He said with a shit eating grin, echoing their first conversation as he stepped out from the shadows behind the Thread contact, where for all intents and purposes, he hadn't been a moment before. A fun little trick that had come in handy during his previous profession, now relegated to pranks and general shenanigans.

"Well, since one side is basically Venatori and those Elven gods against the other side which is anyone who doesn't want to be enslaved or blighted, I could say there's a fucking lot of us on the same side right now."

Tarquin dropped a heavy book onto the table as he spoke, the thud echoing through the quiet stacks. Of course Elek would approach him while he was sorting through the Shadow Dragon's library stores. This was his place of peace. Whenever the world became a chaotic mess, and lately it always did, he slipped away to the books.

Something about organising all this paperwork set his mind at ease. Was it the monotony? The rhythmic shuffle of parchment, the smell of old ink, the scrape of quills? Or was it the feeling of a job well done when, after hours of effort, he could see the order rising out of chaos?

Another thing he liked about this work: the notes on other people. Including the Threads. The hefty tome he'd just dropped was, in fact, the compiled notes on them, its spine cracking faintly under its own weight.

"So how do I feel?" He gave a dry snort, brushing dust off his palms. "Glad to still be breathing, for the moment."
