Product Detail Pages, Tracking Information, Email Fixes, SSL, and RSS
Well, just ahead of our three month anniversary, we have a host of fantastic Need updates to share.
We've been keeping track of your qualms, questions, and queries regarding the site's design and functionality. Many of you have, unsurprisingly, requested the same fixes and updates.
And, today, we've implemented the first and most-requested batch.
Product Detail Pages
Perhaps the most obvious change is that individual products are now clickable, shareable, and social-friendly. Simply click the product name and you'll find yourself on an individual product page for a given item.
Maybe you're interested in Volume 2's Jiberish x Woolrich Peacoat — our most popular item in our brief history — or in sharing some of JerSean's amazing photography on Pinterest or Svpply? Well, now it's easy to simply visit an individual product page, share the link, or use your bookmarklet of choice.
Shipping and Tracking Improvements
Second, behind the scenes, we've implemented a brand new shipping mechanism. As a result, we're now able to automatically (hallelujah) provide tracking information for your orders, whilst also expanding our capacity for working with all major US carriers.
What does this mean for you? Well, obviously, you'll be able to track your packages easily. It also means we'll be able to provide more cost-effective shipping, quicker turnarounds, and altogether shorter wait times for you to receive your fresh Need goodness each month.
Email Fixes
Speaking of which, have you been missing out on Need's latest Volumes? We've been hearing reports that sizable numbers of our users have not been receiving our monthly Volume release email.
(Yes. We only send one email per month. It's quite nice.)
Well, as of today, our system is in full and accurate sync with our email provider. As such, all email-related issues ought to be fixed.
(Still, if you have problems, feel free to reach out. Email is a nightmarish hell-scape and it's entirely possible one or two quirks remain.)
Tumblr and RSS
As an alternative means for keeping up with our news, you can subscribe to Imprint's RSS feed in your reader of choice. This'll keep you abreast of stock updates, behind the scenes photography, product updates, code releases, and so forth.
We're also hard at work on some independently-produced journalism, video, and interviews exclusive to Need. This content will be available via Imprint soon.
SSL
Finally — and this one is slightly dated — we have implemented full, site-wide SSL encryption. Need was already incredibly secure, but now we have an extra layer and the confidence-inducing green badge to tout.
If it's not obvious, we're committed to providing the best possible experience for all Need members — both present and future. These changes — both small and large — ought to contribute in a great many respects to that end.
Our thanks to Mobelux for being such phenomenal partners in this portion of the business.
We're still re-adjusting and catching-up after our visit to New York, but have some huge news, partnerships, projects, and capsule lines coming soon.
Follow us on Tumblr and Twitter to hear the latest. And, if you haven't already, subscribe to our once-per-month email newsletter.
Stock Update
Well, it's not quite mid-month, but, between Christmas and New Year, it has been rather difficult to find a moment to update you regarding our inventory levels.
As with last month, I want to ensure you have the best possible chance of getting ahold of Need's Volume 2 products before they sell-out (again, in some instances).
This month, we'll also provide a brief update of items that are newly available from Volume 1.
Volume 2
LD 1.0: Low
After the initial popularity, we've restocked a few units of the beautiful LD 1.0.
Still, people have been quick to notice the restock and we only have two or three remaining.
If you want to buy in, do so quickly.
MacMillan Slate Blazer: Moderate
After the initial popularity of the MacMillan, we decided to drop-ship the blazer to ensure we're able to keep up with demand. (In basic terms, this means each blazer is coming directly from our friends at Hugh & Crye in Washington, D.C.)
So, we have most sizes available, but will only sell through January 10. If you've been waiting and trying to decide, now would be a good time.
Double-Breasted Trench Peacoat: Very Low
The Jiberish x Woolrich coat, having sold out two or three times already, has easily been our most popular item.
We've quietly added one back into stock. One large. (It's possible we may have one or two more early next week, too.)
Dean Flannel: Very Low
Our first collaborative product was, rewardingly, a big hit. We sold out of all units very quickly, indeed.
Currently, we have one large and one small in stock.
Grim Tim: Healthy
The Grim Tim — popular in Volume 1 — has proven to be even more popular in Volume 2.
We have a healthy amount of supply of various sizes. Now, due to popular demand, we're working to get some larger (and one or two smaller) sizes into stock, too.
Madison Wool Necktie: Sold Out
The wool necktie — handmade and available in extremely limited quantities — sold out virtually immediately.
Sadly, as we had the only remaining stock in the country, it's doubtful we'll have any others in stock.
Harvard Mid-calf Sock: Very Low
One of my most favorite items this month — the Harvard sock — remains in stock, but in extremely limited supply.
We have about three or four pairs left.
Pompeian Red Shoelace: Very Low
As with the Harvard sock, the Pompeian shoelace is available in equally low supply.
For this, we also have about three or four in stock.
Volume 1
We've seen quite a bit of interest in some items from Volume 1. As such, we've restocked and added availability for a few item.
Rather than go through all items, we have two Filson Weekender Coats and two Jiberish Wool Shirts in stock. We also have one or two Fjallraven rucksacks.
Need is, of course, available to shop at needlifestyle.com.
Product Availability, Bugs, and Holiday Policies
Here's the latest from your friends at Need.
Product Availability
It has been six days since we launched Need, Volume 2 and we've been consistently overwhelmed by your response.
For those who missed the news, we sold out of multiple items within mere minutes of release. We then re-stocked only to sell-out once more. We're doing our best to sustain availability ahead of the holidays.
Still, as I've written in the past, it's best to order sooner rather than later if you want anything in particular.
Bugs
In breaks between shipping, we've also been keeping track of the various bugs and issues you've been reporting over the past six weeks. (Feels like much longer, eh?)
First and foremost, we've repaired ordering from back issues. So, for those hoping to buy from Volume 1, everything ought to be working as normal now.
Second, we've had a small subset of users reporting issues with logging in and resetting their passwords. We were utterly unable to re-produce this error in testing — hence the lengthy time it took to repair — but we finally isolated the problem today. (It was our fault, not yours.)
You ought to be able to login and/or reset your passwords without any troubles now.
Holiday Shipping
We are rushing all orders this month at no added cost.
We understand it's gift-giving season and we don't want your recipient (whether it's a friend, family member, or, importantly, yourself) to miss out.
Still, it's best to order soon.
USPS and FedEx will invariably become overwhelmed. In other words, dreaded and inscrutable "network delays" are likely (and very much out of our control).
At the moment, we can avoid this. Together.
Holiday Return Policy
We've been receiving a lot of questions about our holiday return policy.
As many of you know, we typically have a seven day return window. For this time of year, though, we're willing to allow you to return just after Christmas. (As long as everything's in good shape and whatnot, that is.)
If you have any trouble or questions, send us a note. I'll handle these requests personally.
Thank You
As always, thank you for all your support.
